If they would have had those 600hp turbo specs coming out of the gates with the GSF there would be a line 2x longer waiting for it.

I believe Lexus will have to throw in a turbo eventually to compete with the Germans. Plus it helps with the fuel efficiency.

I would love to see a twin turbo v6 opposed to a TT V8 personally. They should be dropping a pair of cylinders on all their car to compete with pretty much every other market

That would be great and all to have Forced Induction in the F models in the future. The issue at hand is what will the aftermarket companies be able to do with respect to tuning the engine parameters. If it's anything like the Supra or the IS-F then.....it will be a locked ECU again. Sigh...

And Darbs I agree with you if the GS-F had 600 turbo charged horses the line would be at least 2 times as long.

Aftermarket tuning is dead. Just look at how many of those "tuner" magazines still exist these days.

yup, it's no longer 1995 or even 2005. the complexities of car software make only 'authorized' tuners possible (like rousch, brabus, etc.) or just those that do 'bolt-ons' or pretty sophisticated piggybacks like dinan. a lot of it has turned to cosmetics, with mostly (imo) horrible results.

There was the comment of natural progression of the company but I think the question more or less is does lexus even want to compete with their German counter parts. The Germans (BMW, Mercedes, Audi) have been going with turbo options and makig the HP with great driving experience but then again all those auto makers are not known for reliability or cost of maintenance. An unreliable car would really be a black eye to Lexus/Toyota. One thing I've learned about japanese automakers (especially Honda and Toyota) is that they will not transcend into another drivetrain option unless there has been extensive R&D with proven reliability.

As for tuning, I wouldn't lose any sleep hoping that Lexus/Toyota will open up their tuning options. Lexus is a luxury brand and thats the direction they are gonna go instead of power (like Dodge's current direction).

In performance terms, they were doing fine, even if on paper, they didn't have the biggest numbers. The 458 Speciale, F12 and LaFerrari were all superior to their direct competitors despite being naturally aspirated.

However, the main reason they switched (similar to why Porsche have), is purely due to emissions and the way they're calculated.
