According to many Asian and Russian websites, new LC200 is coming in August, minor facelift, but with new engine 4cly 2.8l diesel with 200hp. Not sure if we can trust the numbers but 2.8l is coming according to article posted few posts above, so it is cool that it is coming to LC200 as well.

New GD series diesel engine... 2.4l and 2.8l, used in various SUV's and pickups most likely. GD series is all new and uses same technologies as new turbo petrols, it is also ESTEC engine. New in-house turbo is also used for GD series.

This info is for new Hilux.

1GD-FTV VN — 2.8-litre four-cylinder intercooled turbocharged diesel engine that produces 132kW of power and 450Nm of torque between 1600 – 2400rpm when mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. When mated to the six-speed manual transmission, the torque figure drops to 420Nm of torque between 1600 – 2600rpm.
2GD-FTV VN — 2.4-litre four-cylinder intercooled turbocharged diesel engine that produces 125kW of power and 400Nm of torque between 1600rpm – 2400rpm when matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. The same engine when paired with a five-speed manual transmission drops torque output to 343Nm of torque between 1400 – 3400rpm.

I could definitely see this being popular in the EUR market but for NA market? at only 115bhp and 85ft-lb tq... the fuel efficiency is there, but i can only really see this being used as a little city "tootling around" type car. In NA you cant get around really without use of the freeways, and not sure if this will make it on the freeways. I figure its technology thats a bit too expensive for the Yaris or Scion iQ? if this were put in the Lexus LF-SA theeeen itd be a fairly expensive car for what you get and the purpose would be very limited

136ft-lb of torque, not 85 :-).

It has more torque than 1.8l in Corolla right now... not to mention that it has that torque from very low RPM and it is not peaky like 1.8l.

So for highways, this is actually better than 1.8l engine.... heck it is likely better in every way than 1.8l, maybe only initial response will be faster in 1.8l.

The 1.2T, an all-new direct injection turbo-charged petrol engine, makes its global debut in the New Auris. It belongs to the range of 14 new engines that Toyota will launch globally between April 2014 and the end of 2015.
