Yeah Toyota made record profits last year and they're expecting record profits this year!

Cost cutting has been the main factor in allowing Toyota to generate such big profits. I read a while back that Toyota was forcing their old lifetime suppliers to "cut cost" or be booted, hence the result of all these newer (post 2011) Toyota & Lexus products (not including current RX or ISC as they're old) have significantly lower quality & grade of materials in use, amongst many other penny pinching techniques..

Please stop spreading these false rumors. Yes, Toyota has the highest profit margin out of all manufacturers. The big reason behind Toyota's big profits is the fall of the yen. Like ALL car manufacturers, they try to cut costs where possible. And cutting costs does not necessarily mean cheaper materials, it also means becoming more efficient in the line or through manufacturing techniques. More efficiency = more output in less time = more profit. There has been this ongoing line in this forum (in reviews, recent user's post histories, even moderators) about cost cutting and "cheaper materials" particularly by the Japanese manufacturers. EVERYONE has been cheapening out (see Volkswagen Jetta)

indeed... a lot various things are considered cost cutting by manufacturer - higher quality vehicles with less warranty expenses are considered "cost cutting" by Toyota.

heck this new global platform coming out this year, that will span most of new Toyota's is going to bring higher quality, better drive-ability (lover center of gravity) is also considered "cost cutting".

And of course, lets mention that Toyota just announced increase in R&D budget just week ago, to almost $10 billion, highest in their history (and lets consider strong yen too).

uh, we have heard about new V6 coming this year, as well as 2.0l turbo to many vehicles... together with new V8 that is out in RC-F, almost every Lexus will have "new" engine within next 12 months likely.

the 2.0l for 'many vehicles' will basically be the one in the nx, no?
new v6 - good stuff.
v8 in rc-f, how is that 'new'?

The thing that gets me is that Toyota is getting way too greedy and are simply relying on their badge and loyal customers.

The reality is that this year Toyota expects over $20 billion in profits, that's more than GM & VWs combined profits in 2014

Yet Toyota is refusing a small wage hike for their Japanese labour force,

"Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) said on Wednesday it was "impossible" to meet union demands for a 13,300 yen ($112) monthly pay rise"
http://mobile.reuters.com/article/id...50225?irpc=932
So not only have they cheapened out on by using low quality material, old engines, no new innovation etc
But they won't even give their home workers a small pay rise!!

Seiosuly that's way too greedy

Looks alot like vg30dett. TQ numbers are awesome. With some upgrades 500hp should be easy to get assuming internals can handle it

As gym ratter posted the data is recent. I don't recall Hyundai being in the top 3 in quality or reliability in any report.

Go roam the used car lot of a Hyundai dealership and tell me how those cars are holding up.
