Default New VW Four-Door Coupe Concept to Debut in Geneva, Could Preview the Next CC

These are the first official design sketches of a new VW concept which will be unveiled next week at the Geneva Motor Show. VW didn’t disclose the study’s name, but said the four-door concept is bigger than the current CC.

It’s unclear for the moment whether the new CC will be significantly bigger than its predecessor or a completely different model positioned above the CC.

According to the automaker, the car features a new design language for the brand, with the sketches showing a more dynamic profile, a larger grille that probably previews a new family face for VW, as well as sharper headlights and taillights.

The study is powered by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a TSI petrol engine and two electric motors with AWD capability. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the study’s official debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Default New VW Sport Coupe Concept GTE Slots Between Passat and Phaeton

VW's concept debut for the 2015 Geneva Motor Show is the Sport Coupe GTE, a sleek looking sports saloon that was designed to slot between the existing Passat and Phaeton.

Based on the German group's modular platform, the Sport Coupe GTE Concept utilizes an plug-in-hybrid powertrain combining an unidentified turbocharged engine with an electric drive that produces a total of 380-horsepower.

Volkswagen said that the study has a pure-electric driving range of 50 km (31 miles) and an overall range of around 1,000km or about 620 miles returning a combined economy of 2l/100km (117.6 mpg US or 141.2 mpg UK).

Further details will be released during the concept's world premiere in Geneva on Tuesday.

I don't car for it, just looks bland and not very distinct, lights just look weird like they are trying too hard to get noticed.

Default VW's Sport Coupe Concept Hints At A Bigger And More Upscale CC Replacement

Click here to view more photos

The Sport Coupe GTE from VW isn't just another flight of fantasy, but a car believed to preview the firm's next four-door coupe model in the mid-size category.

From the more snazzy styling to the grander exterior dimensions and the advanced tech, it looks like VW wants to push it above the current CC and closer to other premium sports saloons like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Audi A7 Sportback – albeit not too close in pricing.

VW itself said that it portrays a styling exercise for a new model to bridge the gap between the Euro Passat and the Phaeton.

At 4,869mm (191.7 inches) long 1,407mm (55.4 inches) tall and 1,864mm (73.4 inches) wide, the Sport Coupe is longer and wider than the current Passat, while riding on a 50mm longer wheelbase at 2,841 mm (111.9 inches) for improved rear legroom - Note: VW's US press arm mistakenly noted that the wheelbase was 118.9 inches or 3,020mm, something we repeated in our original article on the study.

For power, VW chose a 295hp 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged gasoline engine that operates in combination with two electric motors, one in the gearbox housing and the other at the rear, delivering a system output of 274hp (380PS), good enough for a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint in 5.0 seconds and a 250km/h (155mph) top speed.

The GTE can run on battery power for 50km (31 miles) and has an overall range of around 1,000km or about 620 miles, returning a combined efficiency of 2l/100km (117.6 mpg US or 141.2 mpg UK).

Default Volkswagen Sport Coupe GTE Concept Video, First Look

Volkswagen is previewing its future design language at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

Making its debut in Switzerland is the Volkswagen Sport Coupe GTE concept, featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain that is good for a total system output of 374 hp through a 3.0-liter V6 engine and a pair of electric motors. According to the German automaker, the Sport Coupe GTE concept has an all-electric driving range up to 32 miles and is capable of getting up to 118 mpg.

Measuring about four inches longer and two inches wider than the existing Passat, VW said that the model would actually slot between the CC and Phaeton if it heads to production. Inside, the company is also showing off some next-gen tech including a 12.3-inch screen in the gauge cluster and a touchscreen in the second row giving passengers access to music playback, the climate control and phone systems.

Default How About this Rendering as the Next VW CC?

We hope VW goes to town on the new CC coupe-like sedan in terms of design. They have the potential to create one of their nicest-looking cars ever, but being VW they could just as well release a car that you struggle to tell apart from its predecessor.

Based on the sharp-looking Sport Coupe Concept GTE, the rendering you see below, courtesy of X-Tomi, is what the next CC should look like. It retains the basic shape of the design study, but with a more production-like bumper, as well as the headlights, rear lights and wheels; oh, and it has proper door handles too.

If it were up to us, those are the only modifications we’d do to it. However, it’s not up to us and there’s a chance we’ll be sorely disappointed.

Either way, the car will be bigger than before, in an effort to be a more premium VW-badged offering to sit in between the regular Passat and Phaeton; the latter is also going to be replaced by an all-new model, in spite of mediocre sales and unclear image.

Don't care for the hatchback styling, and neither does most of America. Looks cheap, like the econo cars of the early 80's.
