Default What will Clarkson think of the RC F? Thoughts?

Top Gear fan forum Final Gear.com is reporting that on the March 1st episode, Jeremy Clarkson will hit the track in the Lexus RC F. Here's the full description:

"Richard Hammond is air-lifted onto a mountain in the wilderness of Canada with a watch that he can send a distress signal from. Unfortunately for Hammond, in his case, the signal is to be received and acted upon by none other than Clarkson and May. Reluctantly, the pair set off on an epic quest to rescue their colleague using two pickup trucks: a Hennessy Velociraptor and a Chevrolet Silverado.

Clarkson hits the test track, for the first time this season, in the all-new Lexus RC F coupe. Gillian Anderson will be the seventh celebrity in series twenty-two to take to the Top Gear test track in the reasonably priced car."

I think we have reason to be optimistic. You can read why on the blog. >>

Brace yourselves, I think its going to be harsh. I think he will rip on the fact that its overweight (just like every review out there) and that he would think Lexus would be able to create a better RCF given how much he loves the LFA. If you watched the February 15 episode, he tested the M3 and loved it

He already previewed his thoughts in the NX review. Be prepared for more of this...

Only recently I tried the new RC F, which is a four-seat, two-door sports coupé priced and powered to compete with the BMW M4. And despite what my colleague said last week, it misses the target by about 217 miles, partly because it weighs more than the Atlantic Ocean and partly because you drive around everywhere in a wail of dreary understeer.

I think there is too much hype about what would Jezza say about RC F after has driven it on the next Topgear show. I am still saying the RCF is not the LFA so expect some bashing well thats my view.

I think he'll be underwhelmed, especially after loving the LFA. The RC F just isn't the sharp scalpel/track tool flavor that most journalists tend to enjoy. It's got good power, but at the end of the day, it's very much a Performance Lexus (not a bad thing). As Lexus themselves said, it's a car that most everyday drivers can push a bit and get enjoyment out of. But it's not the car that will go to that 9/10ths or 10/10ths. Transmission is a bit slow, not as sharp or smooth as the Jaguar F-Type or BMW M235i's 8 speed autos. Some design elements like the stitching pattern on the seats and doors is very unique and well done, but it could also use things such as extended thigh support and 4 way lumbar, etc.

Hows it stripped out?
New stang comes pretty well equipped especially a GT.
RS5 weighs the same as RCF and its old platform plus has AWD.

RCF is much better built ofcourse....

he doesn't believe new C63 will be as light as officially claimed either, quoting the M4 as example ( real production samples hundreds of lbs. heavier than initially claimed officially)......

FWIW, Car and Driver estimates the C63 to be right about 4000 lbs.

Weight may be down from the nearly 4000-pound curb weight of the old C63, but we won’t know for sure until we park the car on our own scales; for now, we estimate the U.S. version of the new C63 to come in at right about 4000 pounds.
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-drive-review

Motor Trend has quoted a mfg figure of 3950 lbs.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...3_first_drive/

Motor Trend lists the C450 AMG 4Matic at 3700.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...c_first_drive/

And Lexus lists the RC F at 3958.

Edit: Automobile Magazine quotes 3615 lbs for the C63 and 3648 for the C63 S.

with M3/4 using a smaller engine and CF parts i really doubt C63 is going to weigh in the same ballpark as an M3/4
