Default E60 BMW 5 Series vs W211 Mercedes E Class vs S190 Lexus GS

I need some feedback and advice please. at first i was looking at a 545i or E500. but than i ran across this AWD 2010 GS350 online. it seems to be priced pretty well and it only has 27k on it. my question is does it drive like the other two? its pretty similar in HP, but down on torque. or should i try and find a 2005+ V8 GS430? i dont own a Lexus and any input and advice would be greatly appreciated.

545i 328 hp / 332 lb·ft torque
E500 302 hp / 339 lb·ft torque
GS350 303 hp / 274 lb·ft torque

The GS would be my choice especially a 2010+ because they added BT Audio that year. All three have some cheap centerstacks but nice trimmings. Better fuel and reliability with the Lexus too, though the 3GS was an original L-Finesse car and some bits can rattle. Still probably the safer bet of the 3. If I got a 5-Series it'd have to be a F10, never a fan of Bangles E60.

I think the GS looks better in real life than it does in the pictures.

I'd prefer the E500 btw the pic you listed is 2007+ model. A 2003 is a bit different cosmetically.

GS350, no question. The others are too old...and the maintenance on a 2003 E500 is not remotely attractive to me. That was the first model year and didn't benefit from running changes that came later on.

Does this E500 have Airmatic? It also probably has the SBC braking system, which was a good idea but failure prone.

I owned two of the three cars in question, the E60 545 (and later the E60 550) and also the W211 E Class. The BMWs were the best of the bunch, they were light, nimble, great handling cars with a superb ride and handling balance. The E60 with active roll stabilisation and active steering was just a phenomenal car. The W211 was a great car too, but the BMW had it beat in terms of drivability, sportiness and handling by some margin. One thing that really helped with the BMW was switching out the runflat tyres for high-performance summer tires. It made a huge difference.

i would pick the e500 too. if it's 550i i might have given it harder thought

in either case, v8 > v6

I almost bought a 2003 E500 myself, instead of the SC430
Yes I cross shopped the 2, they were about the same price then ...

all in all, $10k for a 2003 E500 with 25k seems to be a good deal. it has all its maintenance records as well. i just wish it was black on black and has a nag system, but beggars can't be choosers.
Glad you like it, and the service records are a MAJOR plus. Given the amount you drive I would've recommended the Mercedes in the first place lol. Happy motoring.

Congrats on the new car! My dad had that same model and I like the looks better than any of the E's that came out after it

if you still decide to take the car, I'd also consider an extended warranty (if available) and/or some kind of maintenace-package with virtually any Mercedes product of this vintage. Mercedes products of the 2000s era were well-known for unreliable electronics and very high maintenance/repair prices.

Already discussed above. He says he has a German mechanic friend that will take care of this. Also is it even possible to get an extended warranty on a 12 year old car?
