Koenigsegg Regera’s Mysterious Direct Drive Explained
A lot of people are still wondering how the Koenigsegg Regera’s drivetrain is working and I can’t blame them.
Koenigsegg’s Direct Drive is one of the most discussed features of the insane 1500hp Regera; instead of a traditional gearbox with ratios and all, the Direct Drive allows the combustion engine and the three electric motors to…drive directly the rear axle with a fixed final ratio. With two of the electric motors mounted directly to the rear wheels and the other one providing torque fill to the heavily turbocharged engine, Koenigsegg claims that has reduced drivetrain losses by over 50%.
But how exactly does it do that? My best guess is sorcery but if you don’t believe in magic like some people do, then I suggest to head down to the video link and let KYLE.DRIVES YouTube channel explain that to you in the old fashioned way, using science and a magic marker.

I saw a video recently of a Veyron and an Agera on Heirlessien and the Koeniggsegg DESTROYED the Veyron. It was stunning to watch, but kind of like watching Superman lose to another superhero. lol

The Veyron is definitely outclassed, though it's been out for so long that it's not particularly surprising. Despite having roughly equal peak horsepower, all the Koenigsegg are far lighter. The Grand Sport Vitesse is a rich 4,400lbs compared to the Agera R at 3,1xx lbs. So 1,300lbs and equivalent horsepower.

well this thread certainly deserves an update
1st vid is a koenigsegg employee being taken out, then shmee got to go in the 2nd vid. conditions were cold for each so no full performance demonstrations yet, but this thing seems pretty DAMN awesome

Who Better To Dissect The Regera Than Christian Von Koenigsegg
The Koenigsegg Regera is the world’s most powerful hybrid hypercar, and the company's founder, Chirstian von Koenigsegg,explains what makes it a technological masterpiece.
When it comes to exotic hypercars, the 1,500 hp and 2,000 Nm of torque Regera is on top of the food chain, and thanks to its “direct drive” electric transmission it does 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 2.8 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h (124mph) in 6.6 seconds, and it takes 10.9 seconds to pass 300 km/h (186mph).
Even though it’s performance is electrically aided, the Swedish company’s owner doesn’t like to call it a hybrid; not in a traditional sense, at least.
As opposed to the Agera, the Regera was designed to be as luxurious as a Koenigsegg can be, featuring many creature comforts. Besides the available, fully-robotized body panels, it also comes with a touchscreen display, electric seats, an improved camera system, and over 30 microprocessors (each functioning individually for a function) that let the car maker control them via 3G.
But don’t think for a second it won’t perform on the track, because according to Mr. Koenigsegg, the only car faster than the Regera, will be another Koenigsegg.
Although the car presented in the video is the prototype variant unveiled at Geneva, the production-spec Regera doesn’t stray too far from it, although it has a lot more carbon fiber in its construction.
