Default Hyundai Teases All-New Tucson ahead of its World Debut in Geneva [w/Video]

Hyundai will debut an all-new Tucson global crossover at the Geneva Motor Show, with the Korean automaker giving us a first glimpse at the new model via a teaser video.

The new compact SUV will drop the ix35 name in Europe and will return to the Tucson nameplate, which is still used in other markets such as North America.

Hyundai says the new Tucson will feature more athletic appearance, with an “upright silhouette and sleek character line.” As the rendering reveals, the front end will get Hyundai’s chrome-framed hexagonal grille connected to the headlamp clusters, for a more distinct appearance.

Judging from the design sketch alone, the new Tucson appears to look much better than the current model. But then again, most renderings look better than the production cars they preview.

“Our new compact SUV will be a big step forward for the Hyundai brand globally. The all-new Tucson has a bold and athletic presence and a proud stance. Its design is characterised by flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and – most important – our brand signature hexagonal grille,” said Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group.

Default All-New Hyundai Tucson Will Be Revealed Tomorrow, Here’s a Small Piece of it

Following the official rendering shown earlier this month, Hyundai Germany has released a teaser photo of the all-new Tucson SUV, which will have a pre-Geneva presentation tomorrow.

The image only offers a glimpse at the new model’s front end, where we can see the fog lights and LED DRLs grouped together, as well as a small portion of the headlights and the intricate design of the alloy wheels.

As a reminder, Hyundai’s new compact SUV will drop the ix35 name in Europe and will return to the Tucson nameplate.

The new model promises to sport a more athletic appearance, with the automaker describing it as having an “upright silhouette and sleek character line.” If the production car stays true as much as possible to the design sketch released early this month, I think it’s safe to say the new Tucson will be a massive improvement over the current ix35 from a styling point of view.

Here’s what Hyundai Motor Group’s design boss Peter Schreyer recently said: “Our new compact SUV will be a big step forward for the Hyundai brand globally. The all-new Tucson has a bold and athletic presence and a proud stance. Its design is characterized by flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and – most important – our brand signature hexagonal grille.”

Mini Santa Fe possibly? It is sold as cheapest SUV in Europe.

I guess we can assume that the next-generation Sportage will also be done on the same platform. My brother and I may (?) be shopping for either the current or next-generation Sportage before too long.

Default 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Peter Schreyer's "first" Hyundai design approval back in 2013, the 2016 Tucson. German media (source of photos) just deleted some press release articles with these photos, as possibly an embargo was violated.

Looks nice! Really, so many of these CUVs share the same design cues and shapes... just the front ends are different

(not a knock on Hyundai, rather the class as a whole)

Default This is Hyundai's All-New 2016 Tucson Compact SUV

While we're still looking for official information on the new Hyundai Tucson, we managed to find the first official photos of the Korean SUV.

This set of images gives us an all-around look at the car that replaces both the ix35 in Europe and the Tucson in North America and elsewhere, as Hyundai returns back to a single nameplate for its compact model.

The exterior of the 2016 Tucson borrows many of the design cues seen in Hyundai's latest models including the Genesis and Santa Fe, including a more chiseled body and a stronger identity up front with a pronounced six-point chrome grille.

Default Hyundai Details New 2016 Tucson, Gets 7-Speed DCT and 5 Engines with Up to 184PS

Hyundai is replacing the ix35 in Europe with the all-new and more stylish Tucson that will eventually come to North America as well.

We had the chance to show you images of the exterior and interior earlier today, but now we have official details on the compact SUV that will take on a multitude of models, including the Nissan Qashqai, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

Hyundai Motor Group Chief Design Officer describes the exterior design of the new Tucson as "bold and athletic".

"The All-New Tucson has a bold and athletic presence achieved through refined, flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and most importantly, our newest generation hexagonal grille – our brand signature,” said Schreyer.

Inside, Hyundai says the cabin offers more space and an improvement in quality with new soft-touch materials, while also adding new available features such as heated and ventilated front seats and a new generation navigation system that it claims, is more than three times faster than the previous version.

Other notable equipment features that will be on offer include: a smart powered tailgate that opens at the approach of the key-holder, a Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS) with parallel and bay parking function, an Autonomous Emergency Braking system with three operation modes: pedestrian, city and inter-urban, Lane Keeping Assist System, Rear Traffic Cross Alert system and Blind Spot Detection.

At 4,475mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,645mm long, the new Tucson is 65mm longer and 30mm wider than the previous model, while riding on a 30mm longer wheelbase at 2,670mm. However, boot space has been reduced from 591 liters to 513 liters with the rear seats up.

The powertrain range will include two gasoline units, a 135PS (133hp) 1.6-liter GDI and a 176PS (174hp) 1.6-liter turbo'd T-GDI, and three diesels, a 115PS (113hp) 1.7-liter, 136PS (134hp) 2.0-liter and a 184PS (181hp) 2.0-liter.

All engines are paired to a standard 6-speed manual, with the 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol offering an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT), and the two 2.0-liter diesels, a 6-speed automatic.

Front- and all-wheel drive versions will be available.

Following its world premiere at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Tucson, which will be manufactured at Hyundai's plant in the Czech Republic, will go on sale in Europe during the second half of 2015.

so mini santa fe indeed... exterior looks nice, interior is kind of very dull... but at the price (if it stays the same), looks great... hopefully the price does not skyrocket.

Definitely one of the more aggressive looking vehicles in the segment with this redesign. RAV/CR-V/Escape all have that windswept front end that leans backwards, whereas this has a pretty upright, somewhat bold front end.

But it's nice to have something old-fashioned and mechanical when the bad guys hack in and zombies start invading your ECU software.

LOL good post. of course the unintended acceleration conspiracy theorists would insist it's impossible to stop the car with a mechanical hand brake so why bother?
