World Car Fans is full of crap, as these are NOT the first spy shots. I am really tired of automotive media covering their a**es when they drop the ball on providing up-to-date news, yet regurgitate old news and post fluff instead.

Why did one see this photo in December then of the next Equus? And also these interior photos before lazy WCF decided to cover mere exterior shots? If they cannot license other spy shots, a simple link would do or merely not allude to them being the "first spy shots". I shudder when the next LS starts testing and if they miss it, start referring to newer spy shots as being "the first time spied". (Sorry, had to rant about annoying biased media).

This will be the first amongst the very set of Hyundais designed with Peter Schreyer's full input. I've said it numerous times, that the new Sonata and Genesis were not designed under him. He wasn't at Hyundai in 2011, when they were mostly designed. The next Tuscon and i20 were barely approved after he arrived, so he had next to no input. The next Elantra, Equus, and Genesis Coupe successor are the first Schreyer Hyundais.

It is important to know this, when critiquing each models' design upon debut. I can't tell you how many uninformed individuals claim "an ex-Audi designer made the 2015 Genesis/Sonata", when he was busy rounding up on MY2014-15 Kia designs and barely joined Hyundai in 2013. The DH-L Equus was pretty much final early last year.

^^

Thanks for the insight as always. But are you sure about the Genesis having no Shreyer influence? There are a lot of Shreyerisms in the styling and shape.

Appears to have some refined styling elements, design and trimmings. Will be interesting to see if they offer a broader color palette than current

Thanks for the post cmk1. I'm seeing some Audi A8 in the rear air vent solution and 7-series in the door panel trim design. Very interesting.

You're welcome. Yes, Schreyer very much has no involvement on it. In late 2011, the DH Genesis was finalised and fiberglass model being reviewed amongst the F10 5-Series, Audi A6, and W212 Mercedes E-Class in February 2012 to international Hyundai executive personnel and Seoul customer clinics. The 2015 Sonata's design concept was decided on in late 2011 and already on its way to being frozen for production in June 2012.

Hyundai's Krafcik then reported that both cars were already designed that summer and a detailed background interview described the yet to be seen DH 2015 Genesis design process between 2010 and early 2012. By the time Peter Schreyer got there in early 2013, DH prototypes had been testing for months in 2012 and the 2015 Sonata (LF) signed off since June, with LF prototypes being readied.

When Schreyer arrived in Q1 of 2013, the new i20 of theirs and upcoming Tuscon were mostly done with styling and Schreyer mainly added minor touches to the designs. Similar happened with BMW's Chris Bangle in October 1992, with the yet-to-be released rounded E38 well past-finished, the rounded E39 and Z3 roadster (due in late 1995) mostly designed already, and E46 3-Series in early development.

Like Schreyer with the next MY2017 Equus in 2013, Bangle first had influence on the MY1999 E46 3-Series come 1995-96. Hyundai does have a much faster turnaround unlike '90s BMW (Germans took forever back then) and is not as rigid, but much of the new Hyundais out in 2013-14 are non-Schreyer.

Not even Chris Chapman from BMW (has been there since January 2012), had involvement on the new Genesis. It was designed by two Korean designers, Casey Hyun (lead) and Jun Ho Kim (exterior) in 2011. I figure one will see the differences with models launched next year, as he had at least one year of directing design for those. I apologize if this is too lengthy.

Bingo! I was just about to point that out, as I did on another site. Reminds me of the A8L my father had and my mother's 760Li. When I first saw these, my mind went there. At least the G11 deviates from this on the interior and I expect that the D5 A8 will.

Honestly, where are at least LS test mules? That's the most interesting one of them all, as it's highly mysterious. The current Equus was first spied one year (2007) after the current LS came out and is already being redesigned, after lengthy life-cycle of 7 years (2009-2016).

Knowing how Toyota work, one won't even see it until July-September or 5 minutes before debut at NAIAS..., (hope my negative backwards psychology works and it shows up soon)

I'm liking what I see so far on the interior.
I really hope they step up with their interior quality.

I also thought of the S-Class when I saw the rear of the test mule.

Fixed that for you.

i did not mean the entire rear considering all the clad, but the taillights look very similar in shape

Not difficult when all you have to do is look over the shoulder of others at what they have already done and simply emulate it.

This car is already shaping up to be a combination of generic and borrowed styling elements inside and out. They couldn't even design their own interior door handle, they had to take it out of a 7 series.

When you can't even design your own door handle, god knows about the mechanicals and the actual engineering.

And what else is hiding under that camo.
