I think Toyota, being a humongous company that they are, needs to have various design languages that cater to multiple markets and cultures.
Of course, aesthetic interpretation will always be different depending on the market. The U.S. is only one market, and such designs like the current 4Runner may be embraced by other markets.
For example, the Vellfire is one of the most loved cars in Japan, but such design language may not translate that well in the U.S.
One disagreeable voice is insignificant to Toyota. If the masses are vocal, then the issue would be different.

I'd be careful thou, cause Toyota may see this pic and somehow become "inspired" to resurrect another face from the living dead for their next design.
