So the vehicle that was purchased was the touring model which included the following:
Blind spot
Rear cross traffic
Navigation
Leather Seats
Heated Steering Wheel
Memory seats
Cooling seats
Remote touch
Electric Telescoping Steering Wheel
Siri Eyes
Rain sensing wipers
8" display
LED fog lamps
Lexus Preium Audio
Parking Assist
MSRP:
$44,950
$2,998 dealer discount
$1,500 Lexus Cash Credit
$ 750 Dealer service points credit
$5248 total discount
$4700 trade in (lowballed a bit)
Don't know the exact final cost (left at that point) but I think it was somewhere around $42500 OTD.

Venza has a slightly higher H point, and may make ingress/egress easier.

LexsCTJill, congratulations on your dad's new ES. He probably made the right choice, and I, too, would have chosen the ES over the Avalon or Venza, unless, because of weather or slick roads, I absolutely HAD to have the Venza's AWD option. IMO, the Avalon's interior, with its good fit-and-finish and wood tone, looks nice if you aren't actually touching or feeling some of the plastic hardware...especially the thin wobbly seat-heat ***** on the console and the paper-thin glove box door/latch. The exterior sheet metal also has a quite-thin feel, and the ride comfort (I agree with some other posters here on this issue) has been stiffened too much on the latest model.
But, to its credit, the Avalon has an excellent, mirror-like paint job, (like most Toyota/Lexus products), a first-rate drivetrain in smoothness and refinement, and the usual Toyota better-than-average reliability.
The Venza, of course, has wagon/hatchback utility for carrying things, and the nice AWD option for bad weather, but its standard 19" and 20" wheels have large tires that can be expensive to replace and ride firmer than necessary. And my educated guess is that your dad is probably not enough of an aggressive driver to really need the sharper handling that those big tires give....nor would he want that firm ride.
Yes...regular fuel it is. Three of my colleagues have new or fairly new ES models that are all less than four years old (one of them leased).........and they all run fine on regular.

The joy my dad has with his new purchase is awesome. He has made four excuses to go outside and start the car and play with the features. The Lexus came with just 5km on the car and the drive home took 13km. Surprisingly he has taken to the remote touch and features very well.
