touch choice both are reliable luxury car that will last forever. depending on how much you'll be driving. is the ES brand new? if not how many miles? because the 35k miles on LS may not seem a lot now, but it can definitely creeps up on you if you drive a lot every year, and repair cost for a high mileage V8 import isn't cheap. i suggest you drive around 10k miles a year, then go for the LS. if close to 20k a year get the ES.

People at all price points are concerned about fuel economy. The idea that someone shouldn't be worried about fuel economy because they can afford a $35,000 car (which isn't an expensive car at all nowadays) makes no sense.
The difference between 19 and 24 MPG is 5 MPG. That ain't nothing.

Now if you're going from 19mpg in the LS460 to something like 45mpg in a Prius, that's where you get a real payoff if you drive a ton, or if fuel goes back up to $4 a gallon again.

$367 is $367. If you drive 20k miles a year like I do, thats $734.
Just because someone has the capability of paying more for something doesn't mean they need to or want to.

If I had to make the decision back in 2005 I'd go with the LS. But now in 2015 I'd go with the ES. Why? Visit the 2007 on up LS forum and read about all the mega expensive repairs that car has often needed at between 50-100,000 miles.

For me it would be the LS460 in most cases but if the buyer is wanting something more of a everyday errand/to and from heavier traffic driver, won't need the extra room/features and wants to save money in the long run he might be better off with the ES. ES gets better fuel economy and from reading the LS460 forums their are a little too many expensive unexpected repairs/issues being a little too common with the LS460 to really say it will be as reliable as a ES or a trouble free longer term ownership experience.
