We Know You Want it: Ford GT Walkaround and Startup Videos
The all-new Ford GT is the undisputed star of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show and that is easy to see judging from our readers’ huge appetite for posts about the new supercar.
While some have expressed disappointment that Ford has gone from a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 to a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, the reality is that the new unit will be significantly more powerful than the engine of the first-generation model.
While the 2005 Ford GT’s V8 generated 550hp and 500lb-ft (678Nm) of torque, the new model promises more than 600hp - the exact number remains a mystery for now.
But what’s equally important for enthusiasts is the sound of the engine, and in this respect the six-cylinder unit doesn’t disappoint at all – at least at startup. YouTuber Shmee150 captured the Ford GT on video backstage at the Detroit Auto Show as the engine was turned on to move the car to another location.

V8 is what defined an American muscle car.
This is like a Nissan GTR not having boost or a Ferrari that doesn't rev with a 5k redline.........it is dead.
Mark my words, this GT will be a failure like the XJ220.

The V6 in this car is to showcase what Ford can do with technology, that they're jumping ahead of the curve on innovating engines. We all want the V8 to stay, but the government is stubborn as hell and will not allow that. Ford is avoiding what Detroit did for years, which is resisting changes and sticking to what they have done for years.
I would love to have a supercharged 5.8 in this thing, but politics won out over reason.
And this isn't a muscle car. It never was.

While it is not cool for the M3 to lose 2 cylinders, but at least inline-6 was a very long tradition of BMW, V8 was never really a signature of the M3, mainly the refined balance handling. This would be like a M3 having a floaty suspension from a 1970s Cadillac.

tough to say on sales, maybe it depends on availability as well. but for 170k it's definitely a little ouch.

if porsche can get away with no v8s in any 911, forever, then it doesn't have to be v8.
u know i love v8s but ttv6 does offer some benefits (tuneable, weight distribution)...

that's exactly my point. if people can complain all day about m4 with tt6, then this is simply inexcusable. kind of like how bmw said never FI on m cars look at it now

This is what will happen to the majority of them, MSRP $175k, they sit on the lot for 1~2 years, then sold for $125k brand new. People immediately swap in the flat plane V8 from the GT350R with twin turbo for 1500 hp.
The few ballers would do this instantly, buying the car for MSRP.
The high boost EcoBoost V6 coming out of it will go into SHO and crazy Focuses
