CONSEQUENCE:

SUMMARY:
The Office of Defects Investigation has received 26 Vehicle Owner Questionnaire reports involving the passenger frontal air bag in MY 2012 Subaru Impreza vehicles. These vehicles use a capacitive type Occupant Detection System, which is intended to classify the occupant of the passenger seat as either full sized, small stature, a child seat or other object. In the involved vehicles, the current software settings for the motor/generator control ECU and hybrid control ECU could result in higher thermal stress in certain transistors, potentially causing them to become damaged. If this happens, various warning lights will illuminate and the vehicle can enter a failsafe mode. In rare circumstances, the hybrid system might shut down while the vehicle is being driven, resulting in the loss of power and the vehicle coming to a stop.
Owners of the involved vehicles will be notified by first class mail. Toyota dealers will update the software for both the motor/generator control ECU and hybrid control ECU in the involved vehicles.

However, because only 269 of these new vehicles actually had been delivered to owners before Honda notified NHTSA and an inspection and repair process was available to dealers, Honda was able to quickly contact affected owners to schedule an inspection, and only 20 customer vehicles still require an inspection as of the date of this statement. Any vehicles in transit from the factory or in inventory at a Honda dealer have been or will be inspected and, if needed, repaired prior to sale.
During assembly of the third row seat and seatbelt, it is possible that the rear (third row) seatbelts could be trapped between the rear seat and the interior side panel. If a rear seatbelt is trapped, any occupant using the seatbelt may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered during factory quality inspections.

July 22, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 144,416 crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) in the U.S. to better secure their engine covers.
Engine covers in certain vehicles may become dislodged. If they come in contact with exhaust components, it may pose a fire risk.
This condition was discovered during an FCA US investigation of three incidents in Chile. In each case, the vehicle had been driven extensively on unpaved or uneven surfaces. The Company is aware of a single related injury, described as minor.
Affected are 2011-2015 Dodge Journey and Fiat Freemont CUVs equipped with 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engines. FCA US will install upgraded engine-cover retainers in these vehicles. The remedy will be available when customer notification begins next month; service will be performed free of charge.
Vehicles equipped with six-cylinder engines are not affected.
Additional Journey and Freemont populations also are subject to this campaign. They comprise an estimated 43,679 vehicles in Canada; 46,231 in Mexico; and 115,405 outside the NAFTA region.
Of the 349,731 total vehicles subject to this campaign, approximately 10 percent remain in dealer hands.

August 1, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall to recalibrate control modules on approximately 284,153 U.S.-market sedans to prevent inadvertent side-curtain air-bag and seatbelt pre-tensioner deployment.
FCA US launched an investigation of certain cars following preliminary findings of a similar investigation involving certain trucks. The latter probe determined some trucks may be equipped with modules that have low deployment thresholds, a finding that triggered a recall in July 2015.

The recall will begin with model year 2007-2009 vehicles registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The second phase will be for model year 2010-2014 vehicles in the same states. Finally, all remaining vehicles will be remedied. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Herndon, VA - Volkswagen considers the safety and satisfaction of its consumers and passengers a top priority. As such, Volkswagen of America today notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it will be issuing a voluntary safety recall affecting the steering wheel clock spring on approximately 420,000 Volkswagen vehicles in the U.S.

On certain vehicles, the steering wheel clock spring could become contaminated with long hair or long fibers which may cause a displacement of the internal guide loops. When the guide loops are dragged out of position, they may apply tension to the internal flat cable and cause it to tear.
Should the cable tear, the electrical connection to the driver's front airbag may be lost, causing the airbag monitoring indicator light to illuminate. In a crash that warrants a driver front airbag deployment, the airbag will not deploy, leading to a risk of driver injury.
If the airbag monitoring indicator light on a vehicle affected by this recall illuminates, the customer should immediately contact the nearest authorized dealer or qualified workshop in order to have the vehicle inspected/repaired. Customers are advised to see the vehicle Owner's Manual for more information about the airbag system.
No accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported. Once affected VINs and the recall remedy have been identified, Volkswagen will notify all owners of affected vehicles and will instruct them to arrange for an appointment with an authorized Volkswagen dealer.

A loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury.

GM recalls 2010 Cobalts for wiring flaw
General Motors is recalling 73,424 Chevrolet Cobalts for misrouted wiring that can prevent a driver’s side airbag from deploying during a crash.
The recall covers 2010 Cobalts -- 59,474 in the U.S. and 13,950 in Canada.
Affected vehicles were built with improper side impact sensor wire routing in the driver’s side front door, GM said in an emailed statement. The misrouted wire can be chafed by contact with the driver’s side window being rolled up and down.
The driver’s side roof rail airbag can fail to deploy if the window is down and the wire short circuits, GM said in the statement. If the window is rolled back up and the engine restarted, the circuit will reconnect. However, the short circuit can reoccur if the window is rolled down again.
GM is aware of one crash resulting in injury that may be linked to the defect. The seriousness of this injury is not yet clear.
The wiring recall is unrelated to last year’s ignition switch recall of more than 2.6 million vehicles, including the 2010 Cobalt, GM said in the statement.
The faulty ignition switches, which can be jostled out of the run position and cut power to the engine and power steering, have been linked to 124 deaths and at least 274 injuries, 17 of which were serious.
