Default Cadillac confirms March 31 reveal for CT6; will have 64% aluminum body

Enter production late this year

Cadillac has released more details about the CT6's structure and they also confirmed a March 31 reveal for the upcoming flagship model.

We already knew the CT6 will boast a multi-material structure and now Cadillac says 64% of the body structure will be made from aluminum which has shaved 90 kg (198 lbs) compared to an all-steel body. All of the body panels are made from aluminum while 13 other different materials have been used to provide improved fuel economy, better driving dynamics and enable a quieter cabin.

The underbody features steel close-out panels on the lower structure as a measure to enable a “bank vault-quiet” cabin without having to add sound-deadening material which would have increased weight. The body structure has been reinforced by using high-strength steel in strategic locations, including the B pillars and a rear-mounted impact bar.

Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen has previously announced the CT6 will be offered with four-cylinder 2.0-liter, twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 and twin-turbo V8 engines, but their outputs is not known at this moment. However, we do know the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine churns 272 bhp & 295 lb-ft in the ATS & CTS while the V6 generates between 410 bhp and 455 bhp, depending on application.

We already know the driver will benefit from a digital rearview mirror featuring a 1,280x240-pixel TFT LCD with a 171 PPI pixel density. The mirror receives images through a high definition camera featuring a water-shedding hydrophobic coating granting a clear view even in harsh weather conditions. Cadillac promises this mirror will boost field of vision by around 300% and it will also diminish glare.

The Cadillac CT6 is scheduled to enter production towards the end of the year at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant.

I think only Lexus has done well with using hard straight lines for styling, and that's mainly by using diagonals and emulating origami folds. Cadillac's use of straight verticals make their cars look old and slab sided and the interiors are ghastly. The typical Cadillac rear light strip looks like it came from an ancient Volvo 850 station wagon.

If the "reveal" is on 3/31, then what's this car that's in the new Caddy ad campaign?

That was a sneak peak, not the full reveal. We still ultimately only got a glimpse of the car in that ad.

Default Twin-Turbo 3.0L V6 Among New Engines To Launch With Cadillac CT6

A new 3-liter V6 will launch with the all-new Cadillac CT6 and be offered in the brand's other sedans, Cadillac announced Friday.

The company detailed the powertrain offerings that will be in their new flagship sedan, set for a March 31 unveiling as part of the New York Auto Show. The CT6 will be one of the first vehicles to show off General Motors' new engine family.

A mainstream offering is expected to be a new, naturally aspirated, 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 284 lb.-ft. of torque. That's up from 14 horsepower from the 3.6 V6 currently offered in the ATS and CTS.

But in keeping with modern turbocharging trends, a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft torques will also be introduced. In addition to revised mechanicals for greater efficiency, these new engines also sport cylinder deactivation and start/stop. Cadillac says it expects a 9-percent fuel economy bump from this engine over the outgoing 3.6 that's in a whole bunch of GM products.

Those two Cadillac sedans will also get the new 3.6-liter engine, although the 3.0-liter turbo is for now reserved for the CT6. An 8-speed automatic will be the transmission for these engines, doing away with the six-speed unit that's been offered on the outgoing engine.

“Cadillac’s elevation on the world stage is driven in great part by its advanced powertrain technology and the all-new 3.0L Twin Turbo powers past the traditional segment leaders with higher degrees of the performance and refinement their reputations were built on,” said Rich Bartlett, assistant chief engineer.

“Torque is the pulling power of an engine and the new 3.0L Twin Turbo delivers it with confidence-inspiring smoothness and progression,” said Bartlett. “In fact, the potency of the torque across the rpm band is matched only by the satisfaction of the horsepower created as those revs climb quickly to 6,500 rpm.”

Cadillac officials confirmed engine details CEO Johan de Nysschen let slip last month, including that the CT6 would also offer a turbocharged four, which is probably going to be the 2.0-liter, 270-horse unit in the ATS and CTS. It might not be a slouch, given the CT6 is all about lightness in its construction.

Hopefully its better than the past 3.6 V6 in the CTS. That had similar horsepower numbers to the turbo six in the BMW, but the acceleration numbers and seat of the pants feel have the BMW being WAY faster with WAY more torque down low. The BMW plant has a torque curve flatter than Kansas, with peak torque acheived at 1200-5000rpm. This is what makes the BMW such a great performer, the GM 3.6 V6 is rather peaky and doesn't have a ton of torque down low in the rev range.

Just drove a '14 CTS with the 3.6 and AWD. Engine sounds a bit gruff outside though interior is isolated well.

Yeah I said paper specs because BMW typically underrates theses things. Truly a gem of an engine despite some HPFP issues

Default Raising speaker count : Cadillac CT6 to be offered a 34 speaker Bose audio system

Cadillac CT6 to be offered with a 34 speaker Bose audio system

Bose Introduces First-of-its-Kind Panaray® Sound System for First-Ever Cadillac CT6

Advanced automotive sound system integrates elements from home products

DETROIT – Thirty-five years ago, Bose and Cadillac defined premium automotive audio, forever changing how people listen to music in a vehicle. Now Bose is introducing its most advanced and highest-performing automotive sound system – the Bose® Panaray® system, designed exclusively for the Cadillac CT6 sedan.

The 2016 CT6 is a first in its segment, combining the prestige and technology of a range-topping vehicle with the dynamics and efficiency of a smaller one. The Panaray system marks the global debut of Bose Automotive’s new line of “Advanced Technology Series” sound systems, integrating technologies and design elements from Bose home entertainment and professional audio products to deliver unprecedented performance in a car.

“We asked Bose to create something truly special for this new vehicle: an unbounded sound system, providing an audio experience unmatched in any other luxury automobile,” said Travis Hester, Cadillac CT6 executive chief engineer. “Cadillac CT6 customers will be elated by what they hear and feel when they switch on the Bose Panaray system.”

The Bose® Panaray® system reproduces music with more clarity, precision and deep bass than any system preceding it. It combines advanced, proprietary Bose digital signal processing with 34 speakers – nearly all measuring less than four inches (100mm) in diameter – strategically positioned throughout the Cadillac CT6 cabin.

“There are no short-cuts to this kind of performance,” said Marc Mansell, vice president, Bose Automotive Systems Division. “The Bose Panaray system uses a bold design architecture, and it was made possible by continuous, relentless research. That’s how we established the category with Cadillac over three decades ago. We were obsessed with performance then, and we still are.”

Since then, Bose has developed proprietary speaker designs, advanced amplification and signal processing technologies, exclusive analysis and design tools, and technology for managing engine and powertrain sounds inside vehicles -- all based on a heritage of research and engineering.

Today, Bose automotive sound systems are recognized globally as the industry benchmark for performance and customer satisfaction. For more information, visit Bose.com/auto.

About Bose Corporation

Bose Corporation was founded in 1964 by Dr. Amar G. Bose, then a professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Today, the company is driven by its founding principles, investing in long-term research with one fundamental goal: to develop new technologies with real customer benefits. Bose innovations have spanned decades and industries, creating and transforming categories in audio and beyond. Bose products for the home, in the car, on the go, and in public spaces have become iconic.

From the company’s home entertainment systems and Wave® music systems, to high-quality audio and noise cancelling headphones, digital music systems, Bluetooth® speakers, and professional solutions, Bose has changed the way people listen to music.

If you thought that the 29 speaker Meridian Audio System used by Land Rover was overkill, then wait till you see AND HEAR this one. It is obviously outragerous............BUT I LOVE IT.

I agree, more the better. I do hope Bose has improved. Last time I heard a Bose system was in my friends acura legend coupe. And the nakamichi in my SC blew it away... But then again that was 20 years ago, LOL
