well, thats because a lot of new/upcoming Toyota's and their concepts in last years had floating roof. It just doesnt seem like this car will have it based on spy shots, there is nothing like that in C pillar.

The only spy shots I've seen have the c pillar heavily camoed so you can't tell anything. Are there new spy shots available other than those posted in CL?

Ewwwww. Don't like that rendering at all. But from the spy shots, the dimensions of the test car don't appear to be anything like that rendering (thank goodness). The rendering looks like they just took the NX and pulled the back out a couple of feet. Looks more like a station wagon, in a bad way.
The RX needs to stay its own vehicle. I hope Lexus keeps it that way. It's fine if they want to make it a smidge bigger, but I really hope that don't take the NX and just elongate it in the back just to give the option of a third row. And if a third row is an option, they desperately need a much more powerful engine in it. I also have a 2014 Acura MDX, and with the car fully loaded down with skis and luggage, and all 5 members of family in it, the MDX still pulls much better than my 3RX with only me in it. The Acura is 290hp with 267 ft-lb compared to the RX's 270 hp and 248 ft-lb...and the Acura is 400lb LIGHTER. No need to get into a horsepower war, but if Lexus wants to make the RX a true family hauler (which would be the point if a third row is an option), it needs a bigger engine

The funny thing is that the MDX has a 3.5L engine, which is the same size as the RX, yet it produces much more power. What gives Lexus?
Edit: Weight is not too different:
2014 MDX SH-AWD w/Advance and Entertainment: 4332 lbs
2014 RX350 AWD F-Sport: 4510 lbs
178lbs difference. Similar difference across base models too: 4025 vs. 4178 lbs. This is after MDX went on a 275lb aluminum diet too.

Different generation of engines. The 3.5L engine in the MDX is 'new' for 2014. The engine in the RX350 has been there since 2008. The previous 3.7L in the MDX (same era as the RX) was mediocre. Horrible fuel economy with minimal power gains over the RX350. I expect the 2016 RX will be competitive with the current generation of mid-size crossovers.

i am not sure if extensive use of aluminium will actually reduce the weight compared to current RX, or just reduce overall weight of new car... New RX will be bigger and hopefully a lot more luxurious.

The all new audit Q7 shed 325kg... But since the latest NX is 65kg heavier than X3, I'm not expecting much from Lexus...
Just hope what rayaans said here is true. Maybe the C pillar will be a combination of resins or new material.

As to Q7, it moved from truck platform to car platform, like its buddy Tuareg... Basically as if GX or LX moved to RX platform, then thats kind of weight savings to expect.

The Q7 and Touareg were never on a truck platform. They were always unibody SUV's...bot BOF like the LX/GX.
