2016 Lexus RX revealed (pics page 35)

I always find it amazing how they keep all these info sealed until release date. We're only weeks away from the car show but there's no real picture about this car or GS family.

The RX is the all time highest selling Lexus vehicle. Since inception (1990) the ES has sold 1,307,484 units. The RX since inception (1999) has sold 1,499,062 units. Now that the NX has arrived we will have to wait and see how it will affect the RX. Last month (November 2014) Lexus sold 22 NX's, 93,865 RX's.
When the IS arrived sales of the ES actually increased. So sales of the RX could either increase, decrease or stay the same now that the NX is here...only time will tell.

latest MAG X has renderings of the new RX, they say it will have an innovative window shape for coupe like styling.

While not beautiful, MAG X's render is much likelier. WCF tends to be very pro-German, yet a little bit more balanced than many other sites. They at times are intentionally obtuse/ignorant towards Toyota/Lexus and many other Asian automakers.
The 1RX was sold from March 1998, through mostly early 2003. The 2RX (XU30) was sold from spring 2003, so it did not run from 2004 to 2009. That time period (2004-2008), was spent developing the 3RX (AL10/GYL10). That went into production in November 2008 and was launched in the US in February 2009. When discussing numbers like that, it is probably very important to have a specific and exact time period.

Wow, that looks like a C-pillar fake window in that rendering, just like the 2015 Camry.
I hope to God the 4RX does not have a fake C-pillar window.
Yes it's been done a Lexus before, the 2GS, however that was done in a very clever and minimal way that did not look like a fake window piece whatsoever.
That would be an incredibly innovative C-pillar if that render is true, but I hope there's actual glass or transparent material and not a fake panel. If Nissan was able to use mostly real glass in their innovative C-pillar in the 2015 Murano, then Lexus should be able to do the same, again if that render is true.

Unfortunately, I think that is a fake window. It looks too small to be a real window.
If you look closely at the (real) fixed windows in C- or D-pillars, you will notice that the glass area is (much) larger than the actual opening inside. From this magazine rendering, that fixed window behind the rear door seems much too small to be able to offer any real opening inside; even if that fixed window is real glass, the benefit you would get from a real window would be very small.

The ES went on sale in September 1989 and the RX in March 1998.

That is based on the unrelated Harrier and I am ashamed of WCF's Adrian Padeanu for being ignorant enough to post that. It has been beaten to death enough times, that the Harrier is no longer an RX re-badge and non-CL users continue to lazily make that incorrect connection.

I highly doubt we are going to see a 3 row RX. It does not make sense for Lexus to oversize the RX.
More than likely we will see a 3 row GX crossover than has a smaller price tag and engine size that the current GX.
The RX competes with the ML and X5, it does NOT compete with the stuff from GM or Lincoln.

What are they basing these renders on? They seem to conflict with a lot of Lexus' newer design cues (i.e. separated DRL). Are the two top left (front end and side/C-pillar) images also renders or leaked images?

Correct. It's more a truck-based design than a true crossover. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the next GX becomes more car-based, since, with the exception of the Nissan Pathfinder (which went from body-on-frame to crossover to back to body-on-frame), that seems to be the general trend. And you can bet the rent money that the next RX, even if enlarged and given a 3rd-row seat, will remain a crossover.
