gymratter - merged, thanks. it was me not Vh_Supra26 who created the separate thread originally because he had posted it in the 2014 CTS thread which didn't seem like the right place.

It's true that guys like this are (usually) the ones with the money, but they generally won't be considering V models. In fact, a fair number of them are still holding on to their old DTS and DeVille models, simply because the XTS itself has been such a disappointment.

and he will not be able to explore the limits of its performance because he lives in the wealthy burbs where the speed limit is at most 45 MPH and traffic is heavy.
That's true for a lot of other performance-car owners, too, not just those with the CTS-V. Today's traffic densities are pretty much setting and enforcing their own speed limits, regardless of power under the hood.

yah, but that's irrelevant. The new cts is now a legitimate e/5/gs/a6 competitor and its price reflects that. The new car is much bigger and much more luxurious so you shouldn't reference the old price when comparing. The previous gen cts-v was more of a c63 competitor rather than a e63.

And to be fair that was in part to the CTS straddling segments as their entry level sedan and midsize. The addition of the ATS has allowed the CTS to spread its wings

CTS is not cheap anymore, I priced a CTS V-sport and it was over 80K.

So this one with proper option prob gonna be over 100K.

I guarantee this will not sell very well. It's too soon to be pricing any CTS $80. Doesn't matter how much power it has. The same problem is currently taking place with the regular CTS. Both cars do not have the visual impact needed to get people in showrooms.

I would agree with this statement regarding the previous generation(s), but not this one, and of course that is subjective. My biggest beef is the lack of color options, and no V-specific colors. Even the ATS-V gets the blue metallic option. Might have to wrap (3M) one up.

even the CTS V Sport has a tough time selling, Bass Mech got a V Sport premium for 18k off 70k MSRP. You can look on auto trader and a one year old CTS V Sport is already 50k some even high 40s. That is a ridiculous deal for a 420 hp luxury sedan. But this is priced too close to germans. I do not see this being worth 20k more than the outgoing CTS-V

I have absolutely no doubt its worth 20k more than the last model. That being said, the Germans are able to command higher premiums (as we all know) so Cadillac will struggle. Building respect takes time.

+1, the Germans didn't build there reputation over night. They built there reputation by building great cars and improving on them generation after the generation. Now the the first gen CTS-V caught everyone by surprise. What we got was a small sedan (relatively), big ls motor, manual trans and lsd, it was the american e39 M5 The second generation was a even bigger monster, way more standard horsepower than the E60 M5 and E63. It also happened to hold the record as the fastest sedan on the nurburgring. The latest generation is following suit by gaining 100 more hp and 200mph top speed, now that is some impressive street cred. Cadillac's newest entry the ATS-V has also scored well with journalists.

Cadillac has been steadily improving, while it may not be there just yet its sure as hell close.

all this talk about pricing is fairly meaningless as most midsize luxury cars are rented, i mean leased, these days.
