Extended Warranty Purchase
I am buying a Certified 2014 ES 350 tomorrow. My car has approximately 10,000 miles and I will automatically have the Lexus Certified Warranty of 3 years or 100,000 miles.
I have the option of purchasing the Extended Warranty from the dealer.
Questions:
1. Once my 3 year warranty is up I will have very close to the 100,000 mile mark. What do I gain with an extended warranty?
2. The Extended Warranty is for an additional 3 years and will cost $2,500. I realize it is insurance but is this worth the price and would you absolutely purchase an extended warranty?
3. Are there places to purchase an Extended Warranty that would be less expensive but offer good service?
Thank you

Welcome to CL as a new poster.
Though newer ES models seem to be built with noticeably lighter, less-solid parts than in the past, they still have a pretty good track record for reliability. While any car, of course, can fail, I'd probably pass on the extended warranty. The chances of actually needing it probably don't justify the $2500 purchase, also considering that service and repairs for Lexus products are often less-expensive than on German-brand rivals. In fact, with a Lexus, as long as it does not involve actual warranty work (which usually must be performed at a Lexus shop), Toyota service departments can often do at least some of the work at generally lower prices than a Lexus shop. I once owned an Lexus IS300 and had most of the stuff I didn't do myself (or couldn't do myself) done at a local Toyota shop, where I was good friends with the Service Manager.

Thank you for your advice. So even IF I purchased the Extended warranty, once my 100,000 miles is up, do I understand that even the extended warranty becomes null and void? If that is the case, I would likely use all but about 15 - 20K miles remaining on my Certified 3 year warranty. Does that make sense?

That 2014 ES must already have a lot of of miles on it. Otherwise, the original 6/70 drivetrain and 4/50 bumper-to-bumper factory warranties on it would still probably be in effect....unless parts of them are not transferable to a second owner.

If you do buy the warranty, don't buy the warranty from the finance department, go directly to service and see what they sell it for, you can ever call dealers in Texas and Georgia, they will probably sell you the same warranty for less then LA, should be a substantial savings, but I would pass
