Yes I know that. They could have simply updated the 4.0 with DI and Atkinson. I guess not for FE reasons or it would leapfrog the 4.6 V8.

For those who are into marketing and such, the Toyota Tacoma will be released very shortly and the Canyon or Colorado will have no chance at eating into the sales. Toyota is actually projecting an increase in sales.

And FWIW, the new 2016 will still have a c-channel frame and drums in the rears.

Info coming Sunday at midnight.

You're pretty far out a limb saying that....and it had better be some solid wood.

Even thou the GM twins are technically superior trucks, the Tacoma will have better marketing, and far more loyal owners. In case you were not paying attention, Tacoma outsells the GM twins and increased their sales last year.

Well seeing as how the Tacoma just had its best July ever, and that's at the very end of its 10+ year lifecycle is pretty amazing.

No doubt GM is getting a good number of sales, but they're seemingly growing the segment again rather than "taking" from Tacoma.

I thought ibread that the Tacoma had a best ever month. It's amazing how marketing works and Toyota has nailed the Tacoma marketing. The styling is good and the interiors are good too. It's too bad the frame is still c channel and the rears are still drums.

The GM are good trucks no doubt about it, they are probably superior as well. The GM are the trucks most buyers should buy, but the Tacoma is the truck most want to buy.

Personally, i think it is going to be an interesting contest between the new Tacoma and the GM mid-sized trucks. Neither one will probably really get way out ahead....but a complicating factor could (?) be if and when Ford re-introduces the compact Ranger back to the American market. There are some plans to do so, but I'm not sure it it has been finalized yet.

While I'm all for bringing the Ranger back, I'm not sure the international Ranger would pass US safety and emissions.

and I believe the Tacoma will continue to easily outsell the GM badges by a lot.
Amazing considering low discounts/incentives on the Tacoma and the opposite with the GM badges.

New Tacoma should also get better production numbers, which is a problem right now... they recently reshuffled production in NA plants in order to get more volume for trucks and suvs.

Tacoma, Highlander and Rav4 are all suffering from not enough production right now... they could all have higher sales if not, and they are all at highest sales levels ever (or at least 15 years that I follow).

I'll tell you why they aren't selling any Chevy Colorados, its because they're priced way too close to their full size trucks. For an extra 2-5k you can get a comparably equipped full size truck.

Exactly, you got it. The Tacoma is the only name plate that works.

A Ranger would not work either, most possible Ranger buyers would and are buying the F150 as prices would be so close and Ford knows the profit margins are not as high on a Ranger as they are on a F150
