IMO, Toyota should just can the Tundra and focus on this, since they can't really compete in the full-size segment. Their area has always been the small trucks.

Let me offer this perspective: The net spending on the Tundra is $0. I believe that the Tundra (and platform-mate Sequoia) pay for themselves -- every dollar that Toyota spends on the Tundra pays for itself in the sales of that truck. Toyota may not make as much on the Tundra as Ford makes on the F150 or GM on the Silverado/Sierra, but it does not lose any money either.

So Toyota won't save any money by not building the Tundra and there won't be any money to spend on the Tacoma by killing the Tundra.

2016 Toyota Tacoma Limited: First Look

We had the chance to take a quick look at the all-new 2016 Toyota Tacoma Tuesday in advance of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. We got special permission to show you what the new truck — and new Limited trim level — will look like.

Although we don't know much mechanically or structurally at this point, the overall look and feel is clearly not revolutionary. That probably makes sense given how long Toyota has been able to get away with so few changes during the last decade and still sell close to 150,000 units in 2014.

Most of the exterior design changes — we weren't allowed to get close enough to see the interior upgrades — are in the newly shaped and configured front grille and headlights, along the lower body panels between the fender wells, and in the tailgate. Both grille and tailgate seem to be clear attempts by designers to bring the new Tacoma more in line with the look of the half-ton Tundra: Note the hexagonal shape of the grille and the Tacoma name stamped into the tailgate.

We'll have specifications and details about the more significant changes to the Tacoma in the next few days, but for now we are very encouraged that Toyota is calling this an "all-new" Tacoma. That makes us think Toyota has done some significant work to the powertrain lineup, suspension tuning and overall cab quietness. From the looks of this double-cab short-bed 4x4 Limited, our guess is Toyota will likely stick with similar wheelbase/cab configurations as well.

This would look awesome in black or silver. Not bad in blue though.

This looks like a bit of a let down, does not look all new. And it looks like Toy cheaped out and got rid of the mud flaps.

I'm underwhelmed and it looks childish. I prefer the more chiseled looks of the current gen.

Not bad overall, but nothing exciting either. Headlights are modern/aggressive. Front bumper is horrible. Looks like it's missing all-together or the vehicle just smacked into a wall (pug-nosed). Don't care for the Dodge Dakota taillights either. Curious about the interior.
Yet another racy blue shade for a truck, but non for the standard IS. *sigh*

Default 2016 Toyota Tacoma Leaked ahead of its Debut at the Detroit Auto Show

Following a series of teaser photos, the first revealing official shots of the all-new 2016 Toyota Tacoma have been leaked on the web days before the model’s debut at next week’s Detroit Auto Show.

If you’ve seen the teaser photos released by Toyota so far you won’t be very surprised by the new Tacoma’s looks. The photos leaked by Road & Track reveal a sleeker-looking truck than its predecessor that features sharper headlights and taillights, as well as a larger, redesigned grille and restyled bumpers.

Unfortunately, Road & Track didn’t leak interior photos, but the 2016 Tacoma is expected to feature a more modern cabin, as well as new equipment. Technical details weren’t released either, but the new pickup should feature a new six-speed automatic transmission and other powertrain upgrades to improve fuel economy.

The 2016 Tacoma is also expected to be more off-road capable than the current model.

Default Toyota Shares HD Pics, Video of 2016 Tacoma Pickup Truck

We have nothing new in the way of information on the 2016 Tacoma, but Toyota caved in and released a set of HD pics and a video after last night's leak.

Toyota says that their new mid-size truck is "tougher, smarter and more capable" than the model it replaces. They also mentioned the following:

"Let’s take it to the next level. The all-new 2016 Tacoma will be ready to once again set the benchmark for midsize pickup performance. Backed by a heritage of unwavering capability, an unbreakable attitude and new, rugged tech, Tacoma’s off-road prowess is more formidable than ever. This is how we make America’s best-selling midsize pickup in its segment for the last ten years better in every way. The adventure is just beginning. Let’s go places."

The Tacoma won't have an easy job as GM has already unleashed the new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickup trucks onto the market. It is believed that the new Tacoma will get a fresh V6 engine paired to either a six-speed manual or automatic. We'll know for sure at next week's Detroit auto show.

I am digging the looks! A bit more aggressive. Very intrigued about the specs. Rumors are that it will get a 3.5L V6 with around 270HP. I find this odd considering that's basically the camry motors specs and with supposed Direct Injection, the HP numbers seem too low? Plus, the new Chevy mid sized twins have over 300hp, so how embarrassing

Thoughts?
