Imho, it's not really a horsepower concern but it's more on engine torque relative to what the CVT can handle. Nevertheless, Nissan deserves some credit (along with Subaru) for pushing the internals of the CVT as far as they can.....something to as far as 350 Newton Meters which is no small feat for a CVT.
As for the QX60 (aka JX), they both use the same VQ35DE engine in 260 HP output config. The way I see it, Nissan can only increase output relative to any torque increase that comes with it (as well as keeping in mind the current torque capacity of the CVT).
