Nissan highlights:
Nissan Division has also set the record for most U.S. sales in its history with 1,164,254, so far in 2014, a year-over-year increase of 12.4 percent.
Nissan Division finished November with 91,790 sales in the month, down 1.7 percent from the previous year.
Rogue sales set a November record at 15,067, an increase of 43.7 percent.
Nissan LEAF also set a November record with 2,687 sales, an increase of 34.1 percent.

Sentra sales increased 16.0 percent in November to 13,530.
Frontier pickup sales increased 5.5 percent in November to 6,332.
I like how Nissan/Infiniti spins their lackluster month with "setting records in history".

Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) continues its record-breaking run with the best November in the company’s history with sales of 45,273 vehicles, a 24 percent increase over November 2013. November also saw individual records broken for Outback, Forester and WRX/STI, while the Legacy saw a 97 percent jump in sales.

Subaru’s year-to-date sales are also noteworthy. The company’s previous full-year record of 424,683 vehicles, set in 2013, was eclipsed on November 7. The brand is now up 21 percent year-to-date with 463,770 vehicles sold, with December sales still to come.

Subaru’s sales gains in 2014 follow seven successive years of sales growth and were driven by increases across the board with record sales for Forester, WRX/STI, Legacy, Outback and XV Crosstrek. Subaru of America has now seen 36 consecutive months (three years) of month-over-month sales increases and has shattered its previous annual sales records for the past six years.

“Since achieving our 2013 record earlier this month, every sale is a new record,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc. “2014 will be a historic year for the Subaru franchise as we will break 500,000 sales before year end.”

“Traffic to our retailers remains very strong and it is encouraging to see Legacy sedan sales continue to grow,” said Jeff Walters, senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc. “We also look forward to continuing our popular annual ‘Share the Love’ event with its tradition of giving back to the community in December,” Walters concluded.

The ‘Share the Love’ program will run through January 2, 2015. Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer's choice of the following charities: ASPCA®, Make-A-Wish®, Meals On Wheels Association of America® and National Park Foundation or a local charity selected by the Subaru retailer.

BMW still in the lead for the year. Doubt Mercedes will be able to close the gap for the year-end finish- they were way farther ahead of BMW last year.

Trucks, crossovers power Top 20 car sales in November

Trucks and small crossovers continued to dominate the Top 20 best-selling vehicles for the month of November, just as they did the previous month, but some of the year-over-year sales increases were startling.

Detroit's Big 3 proved the power of the pickup truck for the month. Ford's F-150, furthering its decades-long reign as the nation's best-selling vehicle, came in first, but sales slipped 9.9% compared to the same month last year, according to Autodata.

The decline was expected, however, executives in Dearborn said, because Ford is just beginning to ramp up production of the redesigned 2015 F-150. The new aluminum-body truck is beginning to arrive at dealers.

The change, however, opened a window of opportunity for F-150s two main rivals -- and they took advantage of it. Chevrolet Silverado solidified its place at the nation's second best-selling vehicle with a 24.5% sales gain. Chrysler Group's Ram 1500 was third with a 21% sales gain.

Pickup-truck wars didn't end there. The corporate cousin of the Silverado, the GMC Sierra, saw an impressive 57% sales gain for the month -- highest of any vehicle in the Top 20 -- which was good enough for 12th place, up two places from October. And the two GM trucks taken together outsold the F-150.

GM and Chrysler execs must have been "salvating" at the chance to pounce on buyers who "who are either tired of waiting or afraid of the new technology" in the 2015 F-150, which also offers a new, small turbo engine, says Eric Lyman, vice president of industry insights for TrueCar.com.

After the three trucks, Honda's CR-V compact crossover moved up a notch to fourth place, passing the Toyota Camry,on the strength of an impressive 37.7% sales gain compared to a year ago. Honda recently refreshed the CR-V and more modern looks, an updated interior and new safety technology. Lyman said Honda is adept at managing sales of outgoing models at the same time it is bringing their replacements, and suspects that this might have factored in its sales increase.

Other compact crossover SUVs fared well in the monthly sales tally. Reflecting lower gas prices and a better economy, the Ford Escape moved up one place this month to seventh with a 21.6% year-over-year sales increase. Likewise, the Toyota RAV4 remained in 13th place with an 8.5% boost. But the big winner was Jeep Cherokee, again in 17th place but with a 66% sales increase from a year ago when the redesign was just going on sale..

Cherokee has excelled despite its love-it-or-hate-it styling. In fact, it's an advantage, according to Lyman. "It's because it looks different," he says.

Proof: He says strangers have been asking him about the Cherokee, which he has been test driving for TrueCar.com.

While small crossovers did well, the Top 20 results for midsize and compact cars were mixed. The Toyota Corolla compact moved up a notch to 6th place with a sales increase of 14.2%, while the Ford Fusion midsize was off two places to 14th with a sales drop of 11.3%.

Chevrolet Cruze sales were up 25.6%. but despite that, it fell from 9th, from 10th. Lyman says Cruze's good fortune might be due to factors including more fleet sales and sales incentives.

Even the bottom of November's Top 20 came with a surprise: Nissan's Rogue SUV, which has been a strong seller all year, fell off the list. And in came a compact sedan -- and the only Volkswagen, VW's refreshed Jetta. was in 19th place for the month on the strength of a 25.9% sales increase.

VW appeals to younger buyers, a sign that Millennials may be back to buying cars, says Lyman.

"I disagree with people who say Millennials aren't interested in cars," he says. "We are going to see more Millennials in the market."

Yep. Not really sure what was going on there...unless both companies are gearing up for a blowout this month. The sales of this class were unimpressive all around-November is the first month the CTS got even remotely close to the E-class and 5-series and that was at only 2,446 units sold.

I also think its interesting how the Mercedes GL doesn't seem to be that far behind the just-introduced Escalade. The Escalade really didn't move the needle at all from an innovation standpoint so I guess that's to be expected.

wow some mind blowing numbers this month. i think economy must be really coming back...

great to see a good month on lexus, i am happy on the IS and GS sales. GX sales continues to be quite insane too. i can't wait to see the NX numbers next month

MB, my lord, the c class.... e class is finally coming down. and s class is just stupid, 2800 units?! that's just incredible for a 100k car and dealers are still quite strong on price

BMW, 14k 3/4??!??!?! that explains why i see them everywhere. mb c includes all sedan and coupe and it can't remotely touch the bmw 3/4. the two are really blowing away the IS (and i don't think RC will change results that much)

very interesting month

Mustang retakes monthly pony car sales crown from Camaro

Going back to their origins in the Swinging '60s, the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro have been fierce rivals for fans' hearts and dollars. Historically, the Ford often led in volume, but Chevy took the muscle car top spot in 2009 upon the Camaro's rebirth. However, with the launch of the latest Blue Oval pony car, the tide is turning back in Ford's favor.

November was the first full month of sales for the new 2015 Mustang, and according to TheDetroitBureau.com, the model did spectacularly well. The Blue Oval shifted 8,728 of them, up 62 percent from same month last year, with the automaker proclaiming it the model's best November sales since 2006. Conversely, 4,385 units of the Camaro were delivered, down 13.5 percent year-over-year, meaning its sales were roughly half that of the new-generation Mustang.

Ford is understandably happy with the results, and product development director Raj Nair even hinted to TDB that another version of the Mustang might be unveiled at January's North American International Auto Show. Rumor has it that the model will be the even more potent Shelby Mustang GT350R.

Despite the Mustang's November success, the Camaro outsells it year to day. So far in 2014, Ford has sold 73,124 Mustangs versus 79,669 examples of the Camaro. With December offering the last chance for an overtake, the Bowtie may yet remain king for this year's sales crown.

A new Camaro is peeking over the horizon, as well. It's reportedly moving to the Alpha platform used by the Cadillac ATS, and production could start in late 2015. Prototypes are already testing at the Nürburgring, and camouflaged examples have been spotted weirdly being compared to its '80s forefather.

Great month for Toyota/Lexus. A few thoughts/points:

- December to Remember ads started in late November, so that no doubt drove some showroom traffic

- 880 RCs is pretty impressive. I think the RC went on sale in late November? I will be interested to see what the sales numbers are for December. The few dealer friends I've spoken to say they can't keep them on the lot and waiting lists are piling up quickly - for both RC 350 and RC F. It would have been nice to have RC 200t at launch for an even stronger impact, but that will give them something to promote next year, at least.

- 4,610 IS - great month for the IS.

- With the rest of the lineup being "up" in November, it's a little disappointing that the GS didn't go above 2k units but it's also among the oldest Lexus models now and coming up on a refresh. All in all, the 4GS has solidly been between 1400 - 1800 units every month, which is better than the last generation.

- 7,100 4Runners..... wow. WOW! Long live the BOF SUV!

- More than 2k GXs. Lexus has really hit the sweet spot here.

- I'll be interested to see how well the NX does this month.
