Hydrolock Disaster on my LS460
I'm looking for suggestions on my 2010 LS460….Rwd…26k miles….
My wife was in Arizona a few weeks back, and had the bad luck of getting caught up in a flash flood just west of Scottsdale. Unfortunately the 4.6 inhaled some water due to a huge wave kicked up by a passing truck while she was fording through some wheel deep water. The engine died and the vehicle has been trucked back home to California. I had it initially inspected at Lexus and it seems like we probably have some bent rods as the engine will only turn over by hand partly before it comes to a point and locks up. I have yet to have the engine removed for further inspection until my insurance adjustor can see it. Nothing got wet inside the car so I think it will only need a motor or motor repairs and will not be a total loss. So my questions are:
Does anybody know of a good low mileage 2010-2012 LS460 complete motor?
Does anybody know what the difference is between the 2007-2009 and the 2010-2012 motor
as it has a different part number?
I know i can probably just get a new long block from Lexus for about $20k but I want to try to fix it as easily and economically as possible.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to CL as a new poster.
In addition to Car Chat, we have fro other CL forums that may have this information:

Just one question.......why was your wife trying to got through wheel-deep water? Was there a reason she simply couldn't ride it out with the engine off until the water receded a little.....or was it a life-threatening situation? The hazards (and potential hazards) of trying to drive through deep water are well-documented....and well-publicized. I just did a recent CL thread on them myself.

She was on her way back to California that morning and was proceeding on a back road in a line of other cars at the time. She didn't know any better and was afraid to stop.....just followed along in the conga line to disaster with a BMW 3 series and Toyota Sienna...both of which ended up with the same issues.

The only difference I am aware of is the newer engines are direct injection while the earlier engines are port injection. I think the spark plug change interval for the newer engines is 60,000 miles versus 120,000 for the earlier engines.
There may be other differences.
