Default Lexus: Apple vs Android

For those in the know. Does the Lexus infotainment system support both Iphone and Android? I think I saw somewhere that Lexus has a good Iphone interface but I am an anti Apple person and use Android. I think there are more Android phones than I Phones sold over the last year. I hope Lexus is smart enough to have a system to support both leading operating systems. A smart vehicle manufacturer will not get into bed with one or the other but build interfaces for both.

While we can discuss horsepower and sport handling for vehicles all day long, a lot of people make decisions based on features. I have a mother n law with a Lexus RX. She has no clue her horsepower but bought it because it is a Lexus and has the features she wants. Another friend of mine turned in a BMW lease and leased a Ford because Ford had features BMW did not offer.

The newest Lexus systems do specifically incorporate Siri Eyes Free mode now. I'd imagine in the future they're looking to support both CarPlay and the Android equivalent.

The automakers that are 'choosing sides' is dumb. Offer both, some plan too so there's really no excuse not to offer both

Notice that Acura and Infiniti are on the Android side but Honda and Nissan are repectively in the middle. So again I don't think it matters what 'allegiance' these automakers say they are on. They will all offer both if they know whats good for them. A few years on the market and you'll probably see them start adopting the one they don't have.

What happens with the infotainment systems in these cars 10-15 years down the road when neither Android or iOS are still around? That IMO is something to consider when trying to interface a fast changing technology with an asset that can last 20 years easily. Of course, I guess the argument could be made that even storage media is starting to change faster.

i doubt any manufacturer is choosing sides... they dont care about phone sales wars... Question is just when their infotainment OS will be able to handle Apple and/or Google middleware for this.

iirc the 2016 XC90 is slated to be among the first if not the first with one of these systems so I'd wager around 2020 dual OS in cars will be widely available

Its smart to offer it for both, but just like most APP makers, its better to offer to Apple OS first as that is the customer base that pays better returns.

heh, I bet most major brands will have it in all of their vehicles by 2016, and quite few will have it in updated vehicles in 2015.

Compared to existing systems, quite likely minimum of new hardware is needed.
