Lexus LF-C2 Convertible Debuts (pg.20, post#290)

But I think the base weight will be reduced by some 100-200lbs and there we go.
I just checked weight difference between GS350 and GS460 - 150lbs. Add TVD and $9k brakes and we have 250lbs difference compared to RC-F. Strip some sound deadening and other similar things and we are down to the levels of IS vs 3.
So, real culprit is V8 + TVD + other minor things... But what would RC-F be without those? As we have learned by now, car is seriously quick regardless.

IS and GS share derivatives of the same chassis... I believe IS C chassis is a heavily reinforced derivative of the 2IS/GS platform itself.
Essentially, RC is really a mashup of different parts of the same platform. It would make sense that the IS platform itself doesn't support a V8, which is why the front architecture of the RC is from the GS (which we know can support a V8), and the rear section is from the IS.
To your point, there has to be a more efficient way to do this in the future. I expect that a possible next gen RC F would be a TT V6, so maybe it will more easily share components and platforms with the 4IS. I know we are looking far into the future here, but it's not hard to make logical assumptions

it's definitely easy to make logical assumptions but the current 3is and the rc clearly represent something that doesn't make as much sense (or in a more positive way: less ideal).
and to play the number game? weight difference between 3 and 4 is 40lb.
5 is also based on 7, look how bad it got criticized. i am not saying the IS / RC is bad automatically because GS somehow has its stamp on the chassis, and from cost point of view it makes perfect sense. i am just saying from a planning point of view, the 3is development could have, and should have, been better

Lexus LF-C2 Concept Blows Its Top Off in LA, Previews RC Convertible
Lexus is giving us an exaggerated teaser of a future RC Convertible model with the LF-C2 concept study at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
"The LF-C2 concept shows what’s in store for our brand’s future design direction,” said Jeff Bracken, Lexus group vice president. “This concept shows consumers around the world Lexus’ devotion to emotional designs as well as our passion for an exceptional driving experience."
It's designed as a 2+2 seater open top model with a cool looking pair of humps behind the rear passengers, with the concept measuring 4,715 mm (185.6 inches) long, 1,840mm (72.4 inches) wide and 1,385mm (54.5 inches) tall, making it 23mm (0.9 inches) longer and 13mm (0.5 inches) lower than the RC coupe. The width remains the same.
Besides the absence of the roof, the LF-C2 has some unique styling touches such as the rear light clusters, the reworked bumpers and LED headlights on the outside, while the interior is a…bright-blue LED-fest.
Lexus didn't say anything about the powertrain, but a future RC Convertible would likely share the same engine range with the coupe.

This thing is hot! I'd say the best display of the spindle and funky split headlights yet. What makes it all work are the larger vertical openings below the lights. It adds balance to the front and takes the eyes off of the gaping center grille. I wanted the current IS and ES to have these vertical features, but the grille is left on it's own and overpowers.
What's sad is the rear bumper is still swathed in cheap, black plastic. At least fool the public on a show car and paint the bottom!
