Bribing the car salesman
Anyone ever thought or tried this? I think the sales guy gets 20% of the profit from what the car dealer pays and what he can get for the car. For instance the car cost $10K they paid for it and he gets 11K he gets $200 or something. So anyway what if I get the car dealer guy to try to give me the best price he can. Then when he comes back I tell him whatever he can get under that I will give him 40% of the price out of my own pocket from that point. Or the other way my friend told me to do it is he gives me a price. I give him a price, he comes back again, I put another price and then I have to wait for the sales manager to come over with a final price. Any ideas the route to take?

Why can't you just shop like a normal person, use the resources you do have at your disposal such as TrueCar, Edmunds, CarMax, member purchase programs such as Costco, AmEx, USAA, your bank, etc?
The public is generally misinformed on how much dealers actually make from the sale of a new car today. It's generally much lower than you think. Yes they can make money on the peripherals (financing, insurance programs, etc). Majority of dealer profits are from parts/service, including warranty work they perform on behalf of the manufacturer.

Some people are just never satisfied with the price they get when car shopping. They always go home thinking they got taken, or that somebody else paid less for the same car, or that if they had just waited a little longer (even if they have been waiting for the last 5 years) they would have gotten a better deal. My dear late mother (God rest her soul) was like that. She was an ex-bookeeper and Tax Consultant (and she taught me much of what I know about finances and tax returns). She would depend on me, of course, for car-advice, and after she and I discussed what car would be best for her (usually a compact-sized 5-door hatchback), she would take me along to help find the car, do the test-drive/inspection to make sure there were no defects in the car, while she did the deal-making and paperwork. And it was always the same thing on the way home......"Mike, they took us".
