I don't think they'll look "unpainted" as the cheap mold-in-black plastic base pieces that you're trying to liken them to. They'll have a nice metallic/glossy finish, so it won't come off as "budget-minded" at all.

That's somewhat the case, but only if you are right up on the car. Nearly everyone who drives by it or passes it on the road is not going to be close enough to see it's gloss and not flat.

Painted black mirrors and door handles on black cars don't look "cheap" This is not going to look anything like grained, unpainted plastic. Even from people who drive past it.

It will NOT look like this:

I personally think it'll be better than what BMW used on the M235i, which is a grayish kind of paint that looks like it's trying to the be aluminum that Audi uses on the S/RS lines, but looks super flat and unimpressive in person, even more so upclose.

Lip isn't really offensive to me but it doesn't do anything for me either. The matte black treatment though bothers me

My thoughts exactly, on low end economy cars like Yaris and Corolla, black door handles and mirrors means base model. But it means extra special edition on a Lexus, is hilarious.

I know this originated in the exotic car world, where you can order just about any part of the car in unpainted carbon fiber. It works on some exotic cars to some extend, like carbon fiber side mirror housing looks good on all the extra hardcore edition (Scuderia, Superleggera, GT3 RS, MSO, black series.....etc.)

But even on exotics, not all carbon parts are good looking, I never get the carbon gas door, door handle and even the entire side skirt in carbon, it makes it look like a mismatch color beater that don't have money for paint. Is like why in the world would you want that tiny round gas door in a different color then the body of the car?

This contrast styling trend is a good idea and it works, but just like most things, people take it too far and it becomes ugly and dumb.

yes, Ferrari can have "ugly black unpainted mirrors" but Lexus can not, right?

thats funny, lol.

Reminds me of Lexus having chrome washers like in LFA and various Porsche and members here (same ones?) complaining how it is cost cutting... until they were showing Porsche's and LFA's with same style.

Or for instance, Germans not having fogs in their "sport" models is fine, but Lexus should have them or Lexus is cost cutting.

It is not pulling things off, it is double standards, easily.

truth hurts j/k ...to each their own...different strokes for different folks.

and the black bits on the ferrari are most likely CF, not black paint.
