Scion continues to be dead weight for Toyota. Their brand/lineup should be dropped and the FR-S should be renamed Celica or something.

Another very strong month for the IS - 4,542 units. I look at these numbers and always wonder what they'd be with the IS 300h.

GS broke 2k units again - very nice.

GX is getting close to cracking 2k units itself - Lexus has to be very pleased with 1,955 units sold.

Rav4 up at nearly 27k units. It's getting awfully close to the CR-V now... not sure how that compares to Escape since I can't find the published numbers anywhere.

4Runner up 65% - wow.

Toyota dealers are saying they are still capacity constrained on Rav4, Highlander, 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra, so those products may have even more room to grow.

Great month for Toyota overall

Lexus GS up and on pace to actually sell more than he 2013 model.....
Lexus GX is up huge right at 2000 units...the facelift has been an incredible success. I'll have one for a week to test as I'm curious if it really is all about the new dramatic styling (love it or hate it).

The IS is a grand slam for the brand. The sales are pacing what the ES does some months. Wow!

-- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported July U.S. sales of 29,238 vehicles, representing an increase of 17.1 percent versus last year. Year-to-date sales through July are up 9.3 percent versus last year, with 185,669 vehicles sold.

"Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 continue to show strong gains month after month as more and more customers realize the benefits of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY," said Ron Stettner, vice president of sales, MNAO. "Mazda hasn't sold this many vehicles in the month of July since 1993. A big part of that success is building the brand and showing customers that buying a Mazda isn't buying an economy car on discount, it is buying a near-premium experience for a great value."

Key July sales notes:
July 2014 marked Mazda's best July since 1993 (21 years) with 29,238 vehicles sold and an increase of 17.1 percent year-over-year (YOY).
The 2014 Mazda3 accounted for 9,381 vehicles sold and an increase of 1.6 percent YOY, making it the best July for Mazda3 since 2010.
Mazda CX-5 saw its best July ever with 9,109 vehicles sold and an increase of 16.4 percent YOY.
Mazda6 recorded its best July in eight years (2006) with 5,049 vehicles sold, an increase of 46.5 percent YOY.
SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY proves to be the key between performance and fuel efficiency as customers demand a no compromise solution. More than 80.0 percent of Mazdas sold in July were equipped with SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY.
Mazda's Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales reported July sales of 3,637 vehicles, up 12.0 percent YOY. Year-to-date sales CPO sales are up 15 percent versus last year, with 24,289 vehicles sold.
Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) reported July sales of 3,610 vehicles, up 26.0 percent versus July of last year and the 18th consecutive month of YOY growth. July 2014 also marked a sales milestone for MMdM as they reached 200,000 total vehicle sales in their history.

CLA beat the A3 this month due to increased capacity. Also the MB sold 6600 E-class models. It really is the 3/4-series of its class.

Converted Toyota sales to images for convenience. Overall a very good month for Toyota/Lexus.

The Yaris however is selling so poorly it's embarrassing. The Fit sold over 5,000 and the Versa sold over 15,000 this month. I don't understand why Toyota insists on giving the Yaris (and the Scion xD) such downrated specs in the US when the competition have all stepped up big time in value and proved that there's still a significant market in this subcompact segment.

MDX, America's all-time best-selling 3-row luxury SUV, was the brand's best-selling model, besting a year-old July record.
All-new 2015 TLX is arriving at dealers now.
MDX July sales rose 13.2 percent on sales of 6,283 units, setting a new July record and combined with RDX, set a new July record for light trucks.
"Our July sales were definitely impacted by a lack of sedan availability as we sold out of TSX and TL," said Mike Accavitti, Acura division senior vice president and general manager. "We're confident that the all-new TLX luxury performance sedan, arriving at dealers now, will quickly remedy the situation and drive Acura sales growth through the 2nd half of the year."
Don't think anyone paid attention to the real reason why the TL and the TSX sold in such low numbers this month. We'll see how their replacement, the new TLX does next month.

Uhhh, don't fall for that b.s either...their sedan sales have been bad for years and declining for years. The RLX is only a year old and selling so poorly they should just can it. Even with the TLX getting sales back up to maybe 4-5k units a month that is still going to be below what the TL and TSX sold its best years.

So you are right, I don't think people are paying attention.

So you are right, I don't think people are paying attention.
Acura sedan sales has been steadily declining for sure, but certainly not to the point of a 60+% decline. I'm just pointing out the real reason why the drop is so dramatic this month, since people didn't seem to notice it.

Default Gen Y car shoppers overtake Gen X buyers, still trail boomers

Press Release

J.D. Power Reports: Gen Y Now Buying More New Vehicles Than Gen X, but Still Trails Boomers

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., July 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Gen Y consumers are now accounting for a larger percentage of U.S. new-vehicle retail sales than their older Gen X counterparts, according to an analysis by J.D. Power.

Year to date in 2014, Gen Y (born 1977-1994) has accounted for 26 percent of new-vehicle retail sales, putting sales to that generational group ahead of those to Gen X (born 1965-1976) for the first time. Gen X buyers purchased 24 percent of new-vehicles in the same period, according to data collected by the Power Information Network® (PIN) from J.D. Power.

Boomers (born 1946-1964) are still the largest group of buyers of new vehicles, accounting for 38 percent of new vehicles sold during the first half of the year.

In 2013, Boomers accounted for 39 percent of new-vehicle retail sales, followed by Gen X at 24 percent and Gen Y at 23 percent.

Gen Y sales volume is on pace to grow 16 percent for the full year 2014, compared with 2013, while Gen X sales volumes are expected to increase 6 percent during this time frame.

"As Gen Y consumers enter new life stages, earn higher incomes and grow their families, their ability and desire to acquire new vehicles is increasing," said Thomas King, vice president of PIN. "As new-vehicle demand among Gen Y consumers increases, it will be important for automakers to respond to the needs of these consumers, not only in terms of the vehicle design, but also the marketing, sales and service experience."

PIN data shows that Gen Y customers tend to favor smaller vehicles, with compact/small vehicle segments accounting for nearly half of all Gen Y purchases. Compact car is the most popular segment for Gen Y, with 20 percent of every vehicle sold to the group coming from this segment. In contrast, Gen X favors midsize vehicles. For Gen X, compact SUV is the most popular segment, accounting for 15 percent of sales to this generation.
