1992 SC400 experience
Let me start off by saying I am not car smart. There it is said. Pick up trucks and horses have been my thing until at 94,000 miles my dodge Ram pick up threw a rod. Fortunately I only has a couple of payments left to make . Well, after that experience I thought I am buying a used car, one I can pay outright for and one that will last at least another 150,000 miles. That was 2 months ago and endless cars crossed my path until one day low and behold my friend has a 1992 SC400 for sale. 150,000 miles and well maintained. Her husband owns it and he has three of them. This was his first and he is a mechanic and has taken exceptional care of this car.. Asking price is 3 grand.
Personally I think I hit the jack pot and have stumbled across the car of my dreams.
I am interested in hearing about this year and make experiences of other owners.
Additionally as I stated I am not car smart. I am single without a car fanatic to help me along in continuing the maintenance of this beauty. I am looking into getting with AAA to see if I can take out maintenance insurance. Any ideas or knowledge in that area from others would be awesome.
Finally i am waiting to finally take the keys to my car as the current owner is putting new tires and replacing both the front window motors. So it should be later next week. It is a definite sale. But Meanwhile I am preparing for this new adventure and this new exciting car relationship. So call me crazy, but any words of advice would be greatly respected!

As long as its been maintained and looked after, the SC is a pretty rock solid car. I've had my 1992 SC for 2 years, rolled the odometer from 60k to 80k since I've owned it. Main reason I bought mine is I love the styling, inside and out. Plus I knew if somebody maintained it, it would give me years of great service. Only issue I've had with mine was the clutch master cylinder crapping out on me, but it didn't leave me stranded. Here's a pic of her:
Also I owned a Cadillac of similar vintage, a 1991 Brougham. I will say that car was a tank, rock solid reliable in the 4 years I owned it, it was another 1 owner, babied car, had 100k on it when I bought it, 130k on it when I sold it. The big difference between it and the Lexus, is that everything on the Lexus works. The Cadillac, well the headliner fell out of it, the sunroof motor crapped out, there was rust under the vinyl top, the climate control unit had a couple buttons that quit working, the factory CD and tape player quit working, the wire wheels wouldn't balance, etc, etc, etc. Just a lot of little annoyances, the Lexus, man its like driving a new car lol.

Wow! she is beautiful. How you found one with such low mileage makes me slightly jealous! LOL! I am looking forward to my first detail day! the paint is in good condition but I want to clay bar, polish and seal. Also looking forward to cleaning and conditioning the leather.
I have read where owners have reached the 300 mile mark and still counting. Your car is amazing.

As for the leather, this stuff is great. Granted $50 with shipping isn't cheap, but it will give you about 10 treatments, enough for a couple years.

It is killing me that I am having to wait for delivery. I never thought I would be one to fall in love with a car. The test drive was enough to get me addicted. Big big difference between a pick up truck and this car. Can not stand the wait.

Man I must say pickups have come a long way in the past 5 or 6 years or so. If you owned an old Dodge, ie a 90's up to about a 2004ish truck, then yes the Lexus is WAY WAY WAY more refined.

The pick up was a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. TThe suspension was a real headache maker! Maybe it was the 20" rims. I have never had good luck with a Dodge. For one seemed people really thought why dodge it when you can just ram it! That was the motto for both. Then this last truck died at 6 years 94,ooo miles. I know other people have had better luck. The 92 lexus has been well maintained and next week I will be the third owner. The second I know very well and they has disclosed everything possible to me. Yesterday they discovered a bearing was bad so they are getting that fixed along with replacing tires and both front window motors. Like with any used car there is the risk of major problems but with this car the risk is lower. Which is also why I am searching for used car warrenty or mechanical insurance. Also wondering if such a thing exists! Back to oil leaks , despite what said above I will be looking. I can recognize solid advice!

Welcome, lexi92400......I see you are almost a brand-new poster.
Yes, the ride on older Rams (and on many pickups in general) could literally be a PITA. But that is not.....repeat, NOT a problem with the Rams built in the last two years or so....especially with the lower tow ratings. They ride and drive virtually like luxury cars....I'm not exaggerating. Go test-drive one for yourself and you will see my point. The Ram engineers put a enormous amount of time and effort, with the latest ones, in attacking the NVH problem (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness.
In the meantime, on the SC400 issue, you can discuss it here in Car Chat, or we also have a specialized SC forum for that specific model.
