Lexus models tend to have a distinct smell. The new CT loaner I had did not have the same smell, I guess because it had Nuluxe instead of leather.

My wife hated the new car smell from my last Sienna ( which I had no problem with at all ). She wanted to throw up whenever she got in it. I had to open the windows and try different air refreshers to make her feel better. And the smell didn't go away till 6 months later.

And agree on the melted crayon smell on the BMWs. I think it's the sealant they use when they ship the cars oversea.

My wife has a amazing sense of smell. We were at the O.C. CA auto show last month & she got in a new MBZ. She immediately announced she did not like the smell inside. I realized they all smell that way & the seat leather is overly firm.

Default Let's take this a bit further

If you were blindfolded and put into a car, without touching anything (dash, steering wheel etc..) just sitting in the seat, would you be able to at the very least identify the Auto Make based on a distinct smell(s)?

Most of the time, no, but on rare occasions, yes. Some of the Hyundai models in the past had a distinctive (and less pleasant) smell than that of the typical new car.

Old, New, doesn't matter. But sounds like you're a 'Yes'

A 99.5% No. Some of the older Hyundais are the only cars I can ever remember being able to identify the interior by smell alone.

Since I work at a dealer I can definitely tell when Im in a E90 3 Series F30 3 Series E66 7 Series F10 5 Series and a F01 7 Series. All of those have different driving positions I hate the F30s seats. The new 6 Series coupe and Gran Coupe have the awesome 20 billion way seats I can tell when Im in those.

I also work for a large dealer group. It def helps when you're immersed in the field and have access to different makes and models
