Next Lexus LS (2018 model)

There was a study that was just released about a slight shift towards comfort and large saloons.
Actually, here it is: http://www.autonews.com/article/2016...car-sales-fall
The same aging group that pushed the expensive sports car market (because frankly this was the demographics who could afford them) are getting older (bye bye midlife crisis) and now starting to crave the smooth, comfortable saloons like the LS. Of course, this hasn't manifested itself I guess, but the author seems to think there's a new trend.
While I'm a middling Gen Xer, I chose this car because it is comfortable, smooth and ultra quiet. That said, I'm really forward to the next iteration.
As quickly as these large sedans fell out of favor, they could definitely come back. The automotive industry is very cyclical and frankly, if you want to stand out of the crowd these days, in a sea of SUVs, there's nothing better than a large saloon like the LS.

People are not ditching their sports cars for $100k large full size luxury sedans. The large luxury sedan market is flat, except for alternative energy vehicles like the Tesla which is making a mark. For the next gen LS, it better have a high performance electric, hybrid model if it wants to make a statement. Otherwise, it's got no chance to make much of a difference. It will just be an alternative player to the rest.

Tesla sales are falling heavily especially after issues are popping up and becoming known especially cold weather performance/reliability, Fisker is out of the car business. Hybrid versions of luxury sedans sales are almost non existent. There is really no market for hybrid/electric luxury cars, the hybrid LS was a colossal failure. Only full size luxury sedan that is doing well and has consistent sales is the new V8 only S class which is a game changer with its interior, luxury, and power, just like with expensive sports cars, expensive lux sedan buyers don't care too much about getting good fuel economy. LS sales are poor now, a hybrid or a electric won't help and will fail just like the LS hybrid, GS450h, and other hybrid luxury sedans..

Even the S Class sells at a fraction of what it used to.
Lot of different reasons for it, the shift towards utilities, greater options at high dollar amounts (such as the Tesla, 4 door coupes like the A7,CLS, 6 Grand Coupe...

Heard through the grapevine today that the 2018 LS will be powered by a twin turbo V6. An LS F with a V8 could possibly come around 2021. Hydrogen model will innovate much like the LS600hL did but don't expect it to be performance minded.
Does this mean IS, GS, and RC could receive detuned TTV6 motors?

No V8 at all initially? Wow.

That would be a huge mistake...

2021 for a V8? Lol. No one will care by then. Just about everyone will offer high powered alternative energy like Tesla. This is very lame news if true.

Wow a TTV6? Are they kidding? I have been shocked on the engine choices that Lexus release recently. They did a subpar I4 Turbo to replace ancient 2.5 V6, then the same 5.0 V8 into every performance model including LC500, and now a V6TT for the next LS, hah, Lexus won't get my money for a long long time.

Yeah I have no issue with a standard TTV6, thats what almost everything else has, however they need the option of a V8 unless they no longer want to be considered one of the top tier flagship cars.
