Next Lexus LS (2018 model)

I agree with that, but the current LS is a pretty old car, so it should be expected. . Last time I was at Lexus in late Jan they were selling models manufactured in April 2016 so they have really slowed down.

Very different car and segment though. The LS has a lot of great competition, the 911 is sort of in a class of its own, its a halo purchase not a purchase that has any sort of practicality.

And why shouldn't Lexus? The 2001 LS430 started at $55K. 2007 was around $63Kishm, 2013 (LS460 2.0) was at $72K..so this new one should be in around $82K to $85K.

I was merely pointing out it is NOT unheard of for an automaker to slap big premiums on each new generation. Which is even more funny for Porsche given that each new generation of 911 pretty much looks like the last, just at 110% scale.

No reason they shouldn't, except that people on here will b**** and say "Lexus has no right to charge those type of prices, they are a Second Tier Luxury Brand!!" And then they hop over to another thread and talk about how Lexus is so much more reliable than the Germans and how they hate it when their snobby buddies act like the Lexus flagship is no where near a German competitor.

I don't even think Porsche does yearly increases of that magnitude. At least not to the base 911.
Have to remember scale. A $20k increase to the 911 Turbo is much smaller than a $20k increase to the base 911.
Besides, Lexus isn't Porsche.
Hey, if Lexus thinks it can pull this off, great. But, in my opinion, this will be like the RCF and GSF, overpriced slow sellers.

Correct, not yearly, but at each "redesign" they tend to slap a huge jump. Usually the C4S jumps to the old base Turbo cost, and the base Turbo jumps to the Turbo S cost, and well, you get the idea. It is actually quite off putting to me that each generation sees this type of jump. But I am not a big fan of the newer 911's anyway, I just don't dig they way they sound.

I think it will be priced between the 6 cylinder and V8 competitors.

Well obviously you agree that it shouldn't be priced the same as the German V8 equivalents.
Secondly, that's still a huge year-to-year jump in price approaching $20k.
Right now the LS MSRPs between $72-$77k depending on wheelbase sans AWD and that's with a V8. That's a 10% to 25% increase in price.
Too much imo.

I would think you'd want to compare it to the current MSRP of the LWB versions, since the new one is even longer than those. Current LWBs start at $79k RWD and $82k AWD. The LS500 will be bigger, with more tech, more safety, and more power, so I could see the RWD version starting around $85k, with AWD around $87k. That would be an increase of 6-8% over comparable 2017 models.
