Default 2015 Buick Envision Leaked

Earlier this month, General Motors released a teaser for a new Buick crossover set to debut in China this year, which we said will most likely be formally revealed at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show in November. Images showing the new crossover in full have now surfaced, following a private presentation in China over the weekend.

The new crossover is called the Envision, a name General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] used for a concept version unveiled back in 2011, and it sits between the Encore and Enclave in Buick's crossover lineup. GM has only confirmed the Envision for the Chinese market at present, but we expect it on sale in the U.S. sometime next year, as a 2016 model (prototypes have been spotted testing in the U.S. for the past year).

The Envision will compete against small crossovers in the premium segment such as the Acura RDX and Infiniti EX, and it may even manage to lure some buyers from the likes of the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class. It has a length of 4,667 millimeters, a width of 1,804 mm and height of 1,659 mm. Its wheelbase stretches 2,750 mm.

A version of the Envision is also expected to badged an Opel for the European market, as part of GM’s plans to further integrate its Buick and Opel brands. GM says the Envision fuses iconic Buick design cues with the brand’s new “high-end, refined global design” themes, and this is emphasized in the headlight design which has a definite Opel flavor.

For the Chinese market, the Envision has been announced with a turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 260 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is the only transmission and drive goes to the front wheels as standard. All-wheel drive is available.

Inside the cabin is said to be an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, Buick IntelliLink infotainment system and driver aids such as hill assist, lane departure warning and parking assist.

Underpinning the vehicle is thought to be an updated version of the GM’s Delta II platform. This new platform will eventually replace both the existing Delta II car and Theta crossover platforms in the GM portfolio and feature hybrid capability.

Stay tuned for the Buick Envision’s official reveal later this year. In the meantime, you can view more images of the crossover at Auto.163 and World Car Fans.

Nice find! No surprises in design. Consistent with their lineup and with the spy shots. It's nice.

To distinguish itself and be a viable competitor to the near and true-luxury class compact SUVs, it has to have a highly crafted and distinguished interior with solid tech offerings.

The Enclave is typically well recieved. If the Envision follows suit and with a smaller price tag, it'll prove to be a great move. That said, this segment is getting crowded.

Wonder if the '16 RX will send everyone back to the drawing board

This is what they probably should have brought out last year, instead of the Encore. The Encore, IMO, (and I've done a full-review of it) is really too small and underpowered for a Buick-brand SUV in the American market. It is essentially a redone Chevy Trax with a partially Opel-derived interior.

But Buick would simply point to the sales and say that the buying public seems to think that the Encore is fine as a Buick Branded Crossover.

Last year, the Encore sold ~32K units, well short of the 61K units of the Enclave. However, this year, through the first half of year, the Encore has sold 24K units, not too far off the Enclave @ 30K units.

Encore is outselling the Acura RDX (not surprising given the lower price point of the Encore), and nearly neck and neck with the Nissan Juke, which is of similar size, but obviously the Juke has lower content, etc.

I think people bought the Encore previously because the Trax was not yet available in the American market, as it is now.

How would that help increase sales for Buick ?

Agree. Trax isn't on sale until 2015. In your logic, now that some people might know about Trax, they'd put off purchasing the Encore. But in fact, Encore sales are up significantly.

OK, perhaps I should have worded my last post a little different, saying the Trax will be available in the U.S. instead of is. A typo on my part.

I agree, the upcoming Trax is probably not affecting Encore sales right now. But when it is introduced sometime within the next model year, and it gets exposed in Chevy showrooms, I personally think it will significantly (perhaps strongly) affect Encore sales, especially since both the Trax and Encore are likely to be in the same showrooms. Many Chevy/Buick dealerships handle the two brands together, along with GMC, and customers will be able to compare the two of them under one roof...or one lot. Of course, one could argue that customers can do that NOW at major auto shows (with a lot of walking back and forth), but those shows usually come to major cities only once a year.

Would it be safe to assume this what the 2016 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain will be based on?

So this is a NX competitor? Looks bigger than the rest of the compact CUVs.
