Default Nissan concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo revealed, hints at the supercar of the future

Could preview the next-generation GT-R

Following numerous leaks and teasers, Nissan has unveiled their Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo.

Described as a "vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future," the concept is a 2+2 supercar that is heavily influenced by the GT-R.

Starting up front, the model has been equipped with a "V-motion" front fascia which is flanked by slender LED headlights. The car also has a ventilated hood, a carbon fiber front splitter and circular taillights. Other notable highlights include an aggressive rear diffuser and a carbon fiber rear wing.

The concept was developed by a team of young designers at Nissan Design Europe and they received input from an advanced engineering team at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan.

Nissan declined to confirm rumors that the concept previews the next-generation GT-R but they said the model "hints as to how a supercar of the future might look."

The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo will be available in Gran Turismo 6 in July and the company said the "real-world is ready for the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo. Watch this space…"

Default Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo Revealed, Likely Hints At R36 GT-R

Nissan has revealed its latest vehicle destined to join the pantheon of 148 different Nissans to have appeared in the Gran Turismo video game series over the years. The popular racing sim turned 15 last year and to celebrate the anniversary its creator Kazunori Yamauchi asked design studios from all across the globe to come up with a concept using the theme “Vision Gran Turismo,” and among them was Nissan Design Europe.

The concept penned by the men and women at Nissan Design Europe is the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, and like other Vision Gran Turismo concepts, such as those from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and Volkswagen, it will be available to download in Gran Turismo 6 next month.

But is the concept more than just a fantasy of Nissan’s designers? According to the automaker, the design of the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo was considered to have so much potential it benefited from input from an advanced engineering team based at Nissan’s technical center in Atsugi, Japan. As a result, Nissan has confirmed, the concept gives hints as to how a performance car of the future might look. Considering all the familiar design cues, that performance car of the future is likely to be the next-generation GT-R, the R36 model tipped to be introduced for the 2016 model year.

Few automakers are linked as intimately with the Gran Turismo series as Nissan, and no car more so than the GT-R—years before the GT-R came to the U.S., players became acquainted with it through the game, producing a ready-made fan base when the car finally arrived in Stateside showrooms in 2008—so it’s entirely possible that Nissan will use the video game to give us our first inkling of a new GT-R.

It should also not come as a surprise that the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo sports some elements of a Le Mans prototype. Nissan has said that the development of its upcoming LMP1 racer and next-generation GT-R is closely linked, so it’s likely there will be some styling elements shared between the two.

Press Release

Nissan and PlayStation reveal future vision
Virtual supercar created to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the legendary Gran Turismo® driving franchise

- NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo hints at the future
- 2+2 virtual supercar with advanced aerodynamic body

NASHVILLE. Tenn. – Nissan today lifts the virtual covers off the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, a vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future. It was created through close collaboration with the creators of Gran Turismo®, Polyphony Digital Inc., the legendary PlayStation® driving franchise.

NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo began life as dream project for Nissan designers who were given free rein to create their dream supercar for their own Gran Turismo fantasy garage.

Created by a team of young designers at Nissan Design Europe, in London, England, the model was considered to have so much potential that it has benefited from input from an advanced engineering team based at Nissan Technical Centre in Atsugi, Japan.

As a result, NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo gives hints as to how a supercar of the future might look.

In July, automotive enthusiasts will be able to discover that performance first-hand when it becomes available to download in Gran Turismo®6, just as they did with the NISSAN GT-R and Skylines from earlier episodes of the historic franchise. That performance heritage and commitment to delivering excitement for enthusiasts is why there are Nissan vehicles in the franchise.

But as a specialist in automotive design in three-dimensions, Nissan believes that the real-world is ready for the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo. Watch this space...

Default The Nissan Concept 2020 Is A Nissan GT-R Hypercar

2020 Concept vs R35 GT-R

Nissan has lifted the red sheet off their mysterious Gran Turismo car, and it looks like what you get when you cross a GT-R with a Koenigsegg. This is the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, and I think it looks pretty badass.

We saw it from the back last night, and now we have the rest of it. The concept clearly has some styling elements derived from the current GT-R, especially in the the hood, headlamps and the shape of the greenhouse. But the rest of it takes Nissan's giant slayer to the hypercar level.

Like the other Vision Gran Turismo cars before it, this one will be available for download in Gran Turismo 6 come July. But it seems to be more than just a video game car: Nissan says the Concept 2020 is "a vision of what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future."

And with the next, probably hybrid GT-R currently in the works, this could give us an idea of what to expect. I'm totally okay with that. Who else is okay with that?

Cool looking concept but the production version is not going to look that radical.

Default Nissan's Virtual Concept 2020 Supercar will Become Real at Goodwood Festival

Nissan’s Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo virtual supercar designed for the popular Gran Turismo driving game will become a reality at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 26. That’s because Nissan will display a full size concept model of the 2+2 supercar featuring an advanced aerodynamic body, four-wheel drive chassis and active suspension.

Nissan says the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo adapts race-track technology (in particular, air flow management) to a road car environment. This is why the carmaker says that the extreme design of the concept car is partly shaped by emotion and partly by the wind.

Of course, the first people able to drive the futuristic supercar will be Gran Turismo 6 gamers, with the Concept 2020 to be available for download in July in 10 different shades for Playstation users.

“This is in line with the Nissan philosophy. In reality, not everyone would be able to own a car like Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, but through Gran Turismo anyone can drive it and experience Nissan’s promise of delivering innovation that excites,” said Koji Nagano, Vice President, Nissan Design Europe.

Finally, in the press release Nissan hints at a production version of the study that may be driven up the Goodwood hill in 2020. Who knows, maybe it will wear the GT-R badge…

I know a lot of folks think it's ugly but to me this car is all kinds of bada**. So many super cars, both concept and production, are all starting to look similar. This looks nothing like any of them.

Looks great to me. Takes the current GT-R and modernizes it while giving it more of an exotic look/feel to match its growing price tag
