Toyota moving from Cali to Plano, Texas

In the last 24 hours my FB feed has been busy with friends at the two companies posting up these links. An announcement should be coming today with some details.
A lot of articles being posted as well on companies leaving Cali for various reasons. If some of you remember Nissan left Cali for Tennessee in 2006.

Yeah I heard something was going on with a friend that works for Toyota that something big was happening. I think in the long run Toyota will save a ton of money with this move.

Yup, and Boeing is shutting down the plant that I used to work at. The environment there just isn't conducive for businesses and companies are starting to talk with their money. They used to say Boeing wouldn't move because the So Cal engineers wouldn't want to move. Then 2008 happened and they are quite happy to move if it means they can keep their job

I left California in 2007 after 24 years living in Sacrmento for a lot of reasons, most importantly because I do not share the values of the government there. The only thing I miss is the weather. Good on Toyota for recognizing the importance of voting with your feet!

Often access to talent is why.... I HAD to go open an office in Chicago to get access to more people with the skill sets my companies needed. Didn't have a choice.....

two of my vendors and one customer has left my state to Indiana due to a more favorable business environment, but I digress.

Although HQ may move, Torrance will still be a busy hub.
Torrance has the largest Parts & Distribution center, as all export Toyota materials from a single bolt to a whole door panel pass through the Port of L.A. before heading to its U.S. destination.
In other words, Texas will most likely get most of its business/financial/documentation transactions, but California will maintain its supply & materials.
