it'd be a fun little car if they could just do what VW did with the Jetta hybrid -- 1.4L 4-cyl. 170hp 184 lb ft TQ @ 1000-4500 rpm lb-ft, Turbo Hybrid 7-speed tranny.

Same pretty much goes for all of BMW/VW hybrids vs Toyota, reviews end up with them saying how they want Toyota hybrid engine in German car... otherwise they are usually very protective and german cars as a rule win 98% of tests.

The pursuit of F
I only traded in my CT because the 3IS came out, otherwise I loved that car. Excellent city car, daily commuter to work, took regular gas, and after mastering the pulse and glide technique, I got over 50 mpg in the summer months (low 40s winter). Gas cost me 90$ a month, now the IS, premium fuel and 2.5 times the consumption... well do the math.

I didn't try hard to achieve this on my loaner. I thought the fuel mileage was amazing, but the mechanical and luxury refinement did not fit the Lexus mantra. They could have a homerun on their hands if they restyled the homely c-pillar buttress, added power, and standard wood trim. All easy tasks.
