Default Dodge Charger SRT to Trump Chevy SS with 600+ HP

Chrysler’s newly minted ‘Hellcat’ supercharged V8 already has a confirmed home under the hood of the SRT Challenger, and it looks like the Charger sedan is next.

Chrysler recently announced its five-year plan, laying out the future of the company and most of its products. Included in that plan was the picture posted to the right, laying out the future of the Dodge brand.

Dodge-Five-Year-PlanIt clearly shows that the upcoming Charger SRT will use a “S/C V8,” the same engine listed for the upcoming 2015 Challenger. The only supercharged V8 in SRT’s lineup is the Hellcat, leaving almost no doubt that the sedan will adopt the new engine.

Now, not everything in Chrysler’s five-year plan always comes to fruition, but with a new SRT Charger on its way, it would make sense for the car to adopt the more powerful V8 engine.

Exact specifications on the Hellcat haven’t been confirmed, but Dodge has said that it will make more than 600 hp. The engine will be mated to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Default 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat In The Works?

Dodge gave us an early look at its redesigned 2015 Charger muscle sedan back at the 2014 New York Auto Show, but the automaker is yet to reveal the high-performance SRT version of the car. During the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles five-year strategy announcement just a month ago, we learned that a new Charger SRT will be launched for the 2015 model year, complete with a supercharged engine.

As Jalopnik has pointed out, there’s a possibility this new supercharged 2015 Charger SRT will get the same 600-plus-horsepower engine already confirmed for the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat. If this is in fact the case, then the new 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat could end up as one of the fastest sedans ever produced. We'd expect a Charger SRT with a naturally aspirated HEMI to also be launched.

Dodge is yet to finalize numbers for its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 going into the Challenger SRT Hellcat, but we do know it will deliver more than 600 hp. The only other sedan with that kind of power available is the V-12-powered Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, which is officially rated at 621 hp, but the Dodge will almost certainly be lighter than the full-size Mercedes.

Of course, it’s just as likely that Dodge will use a detuned version of its supercharged V-8 for the Charger SRT to keep the Challenger SRT Hellcat the top dog. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer to find out.

Default New Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Spied; Should the BMW M5, Mercedes E63 AMG be Afraid?

Click here to view more photos

After learning through documents filed with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) that the Challenger SRT Hellcat's engine is set to make its way under the hood of the Charger last week, our spies captured a prototype Dodge that we believe to be the 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat.

The official paper filed by Dodge is called “J1349 Certified Power Engine data for Chrysler as used in 6.2L SC HEMI (Hellcat) 2015MY Dodge Challenger 6.2L SC SRT; 2015MY Dodge Charger 6.2L SC SRT – Level 1” and what it means is that, Chrysler certified the engine's output for both cars.

After seeing the brakes, 20-inch wheels wrapped in 275-wide rubber, and of course, the hood scoop, there's no question that the silver tester is an SRT, but what makes us think it's the 707hp Hellcat supercharged V8 model and not the 485hp 6.4-liter (392 c.i.) V8 SRT?

Well, it's the grille and the choice of alloy wheels. More specifically, the absence of crosshair bars in the upper grille piece that encloses a honeycomb backsplash and the matte black 20-inch alloy wheels shod in the Pirelli P Zero Nero 275/40 tires – both of which are found on the Challenger SRT Hellcat.

If Dodge follows the example of the Challenger, then the Charger SRT Hellcat should also have air extractors positioned on either side of the central hood scoop, a larger lower grille, "supercharged" fender badges (instead of "392 HEMI") and slightly larger front splitter and boot spoiler than the regular Charger SRT 392.

The Chrysler Group's new 6.2-liter supercharged V8 delivering an awe-inspiring 707 horses at 6,000 rpm and 650 lb-ft (881Nm) at 4,400 rpm should have no problem giving the Charger near supercar levels of straight line performance at a price that will be very close to the $60,000 Challenger Hellcat, or roughly two thirds of what BMW is asking for the M5.

Whether it will be anywhere near as good overall as the 560hp M5 or even the similarly priced 425hp M3 sedan (MSRP starts at $62,000) is a different story, one that we will learn once Dodge gives the car out for reviews.

Default 2015 Dodge Charger Hellcat Likely to Debut at Woodward

The Charger is the next Dodge vehicle in line to receive the insane 707-hp Hellcat engine, and it looks like that car will be making its debut at the 2014 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit.

Dodge CEO Timothy Kuniskis revealed on Detroit radio station 101 WRIF that the brand has plans to reveal a new performance vehicle at this year’s Dream Cruise, although he stopped short of saying exactly what it would be. The logical answer is the Charger Hellcat, a car that we know is in the pipeline and is due to be revealed very soon.

Once fit with the Hellcat engine, which is a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that cranks out 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, the Charger will become the most powerful sedan on the market. This car will be fit with many of the extra performance parts that are available on the Challenger Hellcat, including Pirelli P-Zero tires, a hood scoop, slotted brake rotors, Brembo brake calipers, a trunk lid spoiler and larger exhaust tips.

We will be at the Dream Cruise, so check back for live photos and information on Saturday, August 16.

Default 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit revealed

Click here to view more photos

Designed to strike fear into criminals everywhere

Dodge has unveiled the 2015 Charger Pursuit.

Designed to strike fear into criminals everywhere, the Charger Pursuit follows in the footsteps of 2015 Charger and adopts a new front fascia, a revised hood and modified fenders. The car also has a slender grille, a new rear bumper and restyled headlights with integrated daytime running lights.

The cabin boasts a series of updates including a digital instrument cluster, a new three-spoke steering wheel and a Uconnect infotainment system with a five-inch display. Other highlights include a column-mounted shifter and special front seats that have been designed to accommodate belt-mounted gear.

Under the hood, two engines will be available. The entry-level 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 produces 292 bhp (217 kW) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque, while the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 cranks out 370 bhp (276 kW) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque. The latter engine enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than six seconds and return up to 26 mpg highway. Rear-wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive is optional - at least on the V8 variant.

Default Watch the star-studded London rollout of Land Rover's 2013 Range Rover [w/video]

It won't be long before we get full details on the new 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat with its 707hp-strong supercharged V8, but for now, watch the live unveiling in the video below the jump.

Like its Challenger SRT Hellcat brethren, Dodge's high-performance saloon uses Chrysler's new 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that pumps out 707hp at 6,000 rpm and 650 lb-ft (881Nm) of peak torque at 4,400 rpm.

That's more than any other, regular-production, super-saloon model we can think of, including the BMW M5 with the performance package (600PS / 592hp)and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S (577PS / 569hp).

With those numbers, I could probably overlook how horribly ugly it is

I think the regular SRT8 stickers for that, so unless they do a price drop throughout the model line, it will be close to the Challenger's $59,995.
