I feel bad for this guy. Finally gets his dream car and it turns out to be a piece of ****. What a huge let-down. Makes me worry too because this is the only car my wife absolutely loves. I am aiming to purchase a 991 for her later this year.
I know how frustrating it is to deal with a problematic car. Several years ago, I traded in my uber reliable AP1 S2000 for a CPO 2007 Audi A4 2.0T Cabriolet with under 30k miles. That stupid audi burned 1 quart of oil every 900 miles. I was at the dealership 6 times in that first year of ownership. They tried to tell me that all turbos burn oil and some consumption was normal. I replied that my Supra twin turbo, which is 10 years older than this audi, does not burn ANY oil. I could accept *some* oil consumption, but having to top off once a month was ridiculous. I couldn't believe this car passed their CPO inspection.
The dealership finally agreed to do an oil consumption test, which the car failed miserably (no surprise). The car spent 3 weeks at the dealership to replace the piston rings. The same month i got the car back, the battery went dead on me. I had had enough. I threw in a Wal-mart battery and drove it straight to CarMax for a check.
The last Audi/VW product I will buy is a Lamborghini Gallardo in 5 years.

I dunno, cars catching on fire cross the line for me... I've scratched the 991 GT3 from my list. Think I might aim for a used 997.2 instead, and get the benefit of non-electric steering too.

I'm picking up myself a Boxster S (987.1) tomorrow. I hope it's going to be reliable even though it comes with a 2 year powertrain warranty. I wouldn't buy one without warranty otherwise I'll be dreading the IMS problem every day. I love the way the 991 looks, but Porsche needs to work out the kinks before I get myself one.

I agree with you. I went for it because i knew that if i compromised and settled for anything less, i would be looking back in regret. Now i do a double-take whenever i park the car and just smile to myself in satisfaction.
