Default Ford Debuts New Focus RS in Geneva, Still Doesn’t Say How Much Power it Makes

Click here to view more live photos

In case you were waiting for Ford to tell us how much power the new Focus RS makes in Geneva, well, you won’t find that information here (or anywhere, at the moment, because it doesn't say).

Perhaps Ford too was waiting for Honda to confirm the output of its new Civic Type-R, then mess with the ECU to give its comparable hot hatch a bit more boost to compensate (in case it needed to).

They now say it makes “well in excess of 315 hp.”

Any actual details, we hear you ask? Well, no frankly, and they’ve even rehashed the statements made by company officials; they’re the same ones from the original reveal…

Well, there is one thing: they now also mention the brakes as being Brembos at the front and also “the most powerful RS brake system,” as if that actually meant something; it doesn’t because we have no context.

All that’s left to do here, really, is scroll down to the gallery which contains new driving shots of the RS and a live ones from Ford's Geneva show stand; we also added a few videos we found showing the car at the motor show (plus an official clip from Ford with no sound).

Ford Ireland says Focus RS has 350 PS; company spokesman mentions figure is not accurate

Will have over 320 PS

Ford Ireland announced the other day a 350 PS power figure for the new Focus RS, but a company spokesman has described this figure as being inaccurate.

Our colleagues at AutoGuide were the ones who discovered the information on Ford Ireland's page for the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. We remind you that earlier this week in Geneva, Ford announced the 2015 Focus RS will produce "well over 320 PS" from its four-cylinder 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline engine and according to Ford Ireland the exact figure is 350 PS (257 kW).

However, it seems that won't be the case as AutoGuide was contacted by Ford spokesman Aaron Miller who said the figure is not correct as they are still in the testing phase, with the final figures to be released closer to the model's launch. The Blue Oval company will kick off production of the Focus RS by the end of the year, with deliveries planned to begin in the spring.

As a side note, there's no word about the torque figure but Ford has previously mentioned it will be higher than the 433 Nm (320 lb-ft) available in the Mustang EcoBoost which has the same engine.

Default New Ford Focus RS Might Have Even More Power Than Expected

Ok, so there is nothing left to be said about Ford’s uber-hatch that hasn’t been told yet, from its 4WD drivetrain to the turbocharged 2.3 EcoBoost and that ‘drift’ button to the launch control function and …err that is all the info Ford has given us.

No 0-60 time and no exact power figures have been released, yet. Thank you Ford, for not letting us have the crucial numbers of your hottest creation so we can start arguing like normal people on the comment section, that’s so nice of you.

So the initial press release was mentioning that the new Focus RS will make in excess of 320 PS (316hp) along with the promise of a 0-60 time in less than 5 seconds. If you think that the double-clutch auto-only Audi RS3 scores an incredible 4.3 seconds for the same figure, expect the manual Focus RS to reach 60mph from a standstill somewhere in the high 4s.

According to sources, the power figure will be closer to 345hp, which is the exact power the last Focus RS500 was making. It makes sense that Ford wants to at least offer the same horsepower as it did with the previous generation, leaving room this way for even more powerful versions. Time will tell.

Until the announcement of the official stats, all we have to do is take another look on the new generation and its small details.

Do not forget of course to vote for your favourite uber-hatch in our polls that are still running. The new Focus RS is winning the first one against Honda's Civic Type R but Subaru’s WRX STI is leading the other one, proving that the Scooby is still a very desirable machine.

Golf R looks more stately, but this is very aggressive. GTI/R, WRX/STI, MS3 drivers take note.

Default Ford Focus RS first video released

Has a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo unit

Ford has published the first video of the Focus RS high-performance hatch.

Simply explaining they’ve “taken the all-new Ford Focus RS for a spin on some mountain roads”, the company shows us the hot hatch attacking wet mountain turns. The Blue oval highlights some of the major technical features of the vehicle such as the AWD system with dynamic torque vectoring and the four driving modes.

The most powerful Focus from the current generation of the model was revealed in February and had its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The car is powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo petrol unit, also used in the Mustang. The engine delivers more than 315 bhp (235 kW) to the all four wheels.

look i think the focus sedan and Mazda 3 sedan are the better looking cars. the jetta is kinda 'meh' but so is the golf. i would definitely be all in on a mazdaspeed3 sedan or focus rs sedan if available, maybe even a jetta r. the one thing all these rides would need, however, are comfortable seats before i would consider any of them.

I'm really liking the new RS. I test drove the the Focus ST and it was a great car but I preferred the more raw and aggressive nature of the last Mazdaspeed3. I'm curious as how much it's gonna cost. Perhaps mid $30k? Can't wait.

Default Ford Spain also says Focus RS has 350 PS

More than 433 Nm (320 lb-ft)

Ford Spain has published information on its website that the Focus RS has 350 PS (257 kW).

Earlier this month, we informed you Ford of Ireland announced the machine has 350 PS (257 kW), but a spokesman for the company said the figure is not correct as the car is still in the testing phase. Now, Motor.es discovered the same power figure is used by Ford Spain.

There’s still no official figure about the peak power from the manufacturer. When the Focus RS was revealed in Geneva, the company said it will have “well over 320 PS”, coming from a four-cylinder 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. The maximum torque will be more than 433 Nm (320 lb-ft).

Default US-Spec 2016 Ford Focus RS to Debut in New York with More than 315HP

Ford will unveil the North American-spec 2016 Focus RS at the New York International Auto Show next week, following the model’s world debut in Geneva earlier this month.

We still don’t know the official power rating though, as Ford continues to say the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine produces “more than 315 horsepower.” Arriving in US and Canadian dealerships in spring 2016, the new Focus RS is the first RS model that will be produced for all markets at Ford’s Saarlouis plant in Germany.

Besides the mighty turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Focus RS prides itself with the all-wheel drive system with Dynamic Torque Vectoring and a high-performance Brembo braking system. The AWD system continuously varies front-to-rear and side-to-side torque distribution to suit the driving situation. A maximum of 70 percent of the drive torque can be diverted to the rear axle and up to 100 percent of available torque can be sent to each rear wheel, improving handling and cornering stability. Not to mention the drift-mode it also offers.

Other chassis upgrades over the Focus ST include a sport suspension with stiffer spring rates and more efficient bushes and antiroll bars, as well as two-mode switchable dampers, which offer a firmer setting for track use, and specially tuned electric power-assisted steering.

The 2016 Ford Focus RS also comes with 13.78-inch ventilated front discs (up from 13.23 inches on the previous model), which work together with lightweight aluminum four-piston monobloc Brembo calipers painted distinctive RS blue. The car rides on high-performance 235/35R-19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, with available Pilot Sport Cup 2 for improved dynamics at the track.

As for performance and output figures, let’s hope Ford will officially announce them in New York because we’re dying to find out if the rumors are true.

Default Insane 2017 Ford Focus RS500 Expected To Deliver 400hp

Click here to view more photos

As Ford attempts to build the world's fastest hot hatch, it has emerged that the impending Focus RS500 should deliver around 400 hp.

While Autocar suggests that the recently-spied model has yet to been green-lighted for production, chances are we will see the car announced and launched sometime next year.

If the previous RS500 is anything to go by, production will be limited to 500 units and neck-snapping performance will be the name of the game.

In standard guise, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine of the Focus RS delivers 345 hp. With some tweaking however, that figure could conceivably rise to nearer the 400 hp mark, beating the Mercedes-AMG A45 and Audi RS3 Sportback to be the most powerful production hot hatch.

As with the immensely popular yet somewhat controversial current car, power will be sent through all four wheels courtesy of the American marque's advanced torque vectoring system and GKN active rear differential. There is also a chance that an electronically controlled limited-slip differential at the front could be employed to increase grip further.

Debate still remains about what transmission the 2017 RS500 will use. Some say that the six-speed manual 'box will remain while conflicting reports say a dual-clutch auto could be fitted to provide the best possible performance.

Given the cost of developing a new gearbox for a limited-run model however, we're betting on the stick shift remaining the only transmission choice.

Default Hennessey Performance Injects The Ford Focus RS With 400 HP

For most Ford Focus RS owners, 345 horses is more than enough to suit their needs, but those who feel that their compact hot hatch would perform better with more nerve might be interested in Hennessey's bundle of upgrades.

Known mostly for coming up with ridiculous amounts of horsepower for some of the higher-end vehicles made for the North American market and fitting them with aftermarket body kits, Hennessey Performance thinks it can cope just as well with more affordable products, such as the HPE400, aimed at the Blue Oval's Focus RS.

Promising to have it ready over the next 30 days, the upgrade package takes the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine and transforms its 345 HP (350 PS) and 324 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque into 400 HP (405 PS) and 425 lb-ft (576 Nm) respectively. The additional 55 HP (56 PS) and 101 pound-feet (137 Nm) of torque have been achieved by messing with the intercooler, turbo, air induction, exhaust and engine management.

We're not sure exactly how fast the Ford Focus RS HPE400 is, but it will likely shave something off the stock model's 4.7 seconds from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h).

Informing street racers that this isn’t the regular Focus RS will be a Hennessey exterior badge, HPE400 logos, a 'Powered by Hennessey' under hood badge and new wheels.

Default Ford's Focus RS Might Be Harder To Drift Than It Looks

If you think that driving a Focus RS will automatically transform you into Ken Block, you might be mistaken.

It turns out that, at least for some people, the Focus RS is a lot harder to drift than you may think. While the following video doesn't prove that this 350 HP hot hatchback isn't the drift machine Ford advertised, it does force you to consider a few things.

First, Ford wouldn't be offering their services to Focus RS owners over at the new RS Adrenaline Academy if this car wasn't a bit of a handful (in a good way), regardless of which driving mode you're in. It's mostly because it's good enough to require a certain talent behind the wheel in order to squeeze out all the performance.

However, in retrospect, this also means you need to be on your game when you're pushing the car in Drift Mode, which is what Salomondrin tried to do in one of his latest videos.

Both he and one of his friends took turns trying to drift the Focus RS and they were somewhat successful a few times. Judging by some of the comments, someone who's part of Salomondrin's "CupGang" said that they tried to turn the traction control off but it wouldn't stay off all the time.

Could they have thrown the car around a little more violently and perhaps attempt a very popular Scandinavian maneuver? Possibly. But we're more interested to hear what you think.

Default Is The Ford Focus RS Worthy Of The Hype And Its Price Tag?

While it can't be considered expensive, given its specs, some have questioned the Focus RS's near $40,000 price tag. After all, can a Ford hatchback really be that good?

Ever since the car launched, it has been praised by the automotive press and owners alike, largely because of the driving thrills it provides. Not convinced by all the RS badges and the stats, Doug DeMuro jumped behind the wheel of a Nitrous Blue example - and he was immediately won over.

A quick look at the vehicle's spec sheet will give you a hint at just how good the car is. For starters, its 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine delivers 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, enough to accelerate the Focus RS to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a brisk 4.7 seconds.

Beyond its engine, the car has a killer all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring that can send up to 70 per cent of its power through a single rear wheel. There's even a launch control system and the ability to flat-foot shift.

Inadvertently, one can't help but wonder what the even wilder RS500 will be like...
