Default Why Don't Toyota make a Performance Hybrid

So Toyota was the first one in the market to spread the butter. The Hybrid technology. Then why don't they build a Performance Hybrid ? Say even Infinity has a very very good Hybrid line up now, from the M35 to the Q60. All other like Porsches, BMW, Ferrari....etc...they have all produced some crazy hybrid.

Why are Toyota lacking ? How about the Yaris Hybrid R ? Why can't they start making the thing already ?

because they tried...and then failed. They marketed the 1st generation LS and GS hybrids as performance cars but in truth they weren't, and then they didn't sell well.

Its not in the profit margins to do so.

That is so weird isn't it. I would love a GS450H, but the Price is too overwhelming. The Q60H beats the GS in every aspects as Performance Hybrid.

The weirder thing is the BMW Active Hybrid 3. It out perform the GS as well. BMW bought the tech from Toyota.

I just can't believe, a Parent of Hybrid Tech is falling behind every one.

True, and then the marketing fell flat. But then the product couldn't really support the hype anyway. Too bad, hope if they try it again with this next gen LS and future powertrains that they'll get it right.

Have to agree, it's $5-7K overpriced. Though the GS may lose in perfomance like straight line-speed, it absolutely kills the competition in terms of efficiency and refinement of the HSD

The GSh may be 5-7K over priced, but the LSh is about 30K over priced

BMW's ActiveHybrid vehicles do not use Toyota hybrid technology. The ActiveHybrid system (like most hybrid systems) simply sandwiches a single electric motor between the engine and the normal transmission, whereas Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive (and Ford's and Honda's new hybrid systems) replaces the normal transmission with a 2-motor Power Split Device (eCVT).
