Default Jaguar recalls 7k F-Types for two seperate issues with electrical system

Report Receipt Date: NOV 07, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V714000
Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Number of Units Affected: 7,079
Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC

SUMMARY:
Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 F-TYPE vehicles manufactured August 31, 2012, to October 22, 2014. In the affected vehicles the seatbelt harness connector which connects the Seatbelt Tension Sensor (STS) to the Occupant Classification Sensor Control Module (OCSCM) may not have been correctly wired. The OCSCM senses whether there is an occupant in the front passenger seating position, and the STS senses whether tension on the seatbelt indicates a child restraint is being used in the front passenger seating position. Both sensors provide information to the restraint control module (RCM) which informs whether the front passenger airbag should be activated, depending on whether the sensors detect the seat is occupied and/or that it is occupied by an adult passenger.

CONSEQUENCE:
Should the STS not have been wired correctly, the front passenger air bag may not be suppressed, and may remain activated, even when a child restraint is placed in the front passenger seat or a small statured adult occupies that seat. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front passenger air bag, a child or small stature occupant may be at an increased risk of injury.

REMEDY:
Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will correct the harness connector wire configuration, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 5, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-201-760-8534. Jaguar's number for this recall is J047.

NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Report Receipt Date: OCT 27, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V673000
Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Potential Number of Units Affected: 272
Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC

SUMMARY:
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain F-TYPE vehicles manufactured August 25, 2014, to September 12, 2014, 2015 XF vehicles manufactured September 3, 2014, to September 12, 2014, and 2015 XJ vehicles manufactured August 21, 2014, to September 11, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt, Power Assisted Steering (PAS) pump pulley and/or battery positive cable at the alternator may detach.

CONSEQUENCE:
If the battery positive cable loosens, an electrical short may result, increasing the risk of a fire. If the FEAD belt looses or detaches, the vehicle may lose power assisted steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:
Jaguar has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the affected engine mounted components for the proper threading and torque, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 10, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J044.

NOTES:

Acura halting sales of push-button transmission TLX

The "wacky-looking" pushbutton selector that made Jack Baruth sigh on the way to the racetrack is the subject of a stop-sale order and upcoming recall by Honda, Automotive News reports.

Even though the pushbutton shifter may indicate the vehicle is in "park," TLX models equipped with the 9-speed automatic may roll away as the parking lock fails to function and hold the vehicle. Honda will notify customers starting January 6th about the recall. Automotive News reports that the company is not aware of any accidents related to the issue—although since the company has been accused of underreporting crucial safety data to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about Takata airbags, the company's credibility about self-reported accident statistics is definitely in question.

Of course, this comes on the heels of the aforementioned Takata airbag scandal, which affects Honda and is responsible for at least two fatalities and 30 injuries in Honda vehicles. And remember, the TLX itself had already experienced a delay in its on-sale date to allow the company to fix software and safety issues.

Approximately 9,700 model-year 2014-2015 RLX vehicles affected in the U.S.

Headlight assemblies in affected vehicles to be replaced, free of charge

TORRANCE, Calif. – Dec. 11, 2014 –

Acura will voluntarily recall approximately 9,700 model-year 2014-2015 RLX vehicles in the United States to replace both headlight assemblies, free of charge. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue.

Acura is announcing this recall to encourage all owners who purchased an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Acura. Default Takata airbag recall claims 209k Chrysler, Dodge vehicles

Statement: Air-bag Inflator (Regional Field Action Expansion)

December 12, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Chrysler Group is expanding an ongoing regional field action with a recall to replace front passenger-side air-bag inflators in an estimated 208,783 older-model vehicles originally purchased or ever registered in seven U.S. states and five territories.

The vehicles are equipped with front passenger-side air-bag inflators from a product family code-named "PSPI." Chrysler Group is unaware of any injuries or accidents involving PSPI inflators of the type covered by this campaign, nor has a Chrysler Group investigation identified a defect in these components. Further, laboratory tests on nearly 600 such inflators did not result in any failures.

The inflators affected by this campaign differ in design and construction from PSPI inflators used by other auto makers. They also benefited from a more robust manufacturing process.

However, at the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Chrysler Group is expanding its replacement action beyond its original scope of Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Affected by this recall are the following vehicles, provided they were purchased, ever registered or still registered in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and the territories of American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, Saipan and the U.S. Virgin Islands:
2003-2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup
2003-2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup
2003-2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup
2004-2005 Dodge Durango
2005 Chrysler 300, 300C, SRT8
2005 Dodge Magnum
2005 Dodge Dakota Pickup

In compliance with regulations governing recalls, affected customers will be notified beginning Feb. 8. Service will be performed free of charge.

This recall covers an estimated 69,668 vehicles also affected by the initial regional field action. The additional five states and three territories accounts for an incremental gain of approximately 139,115 vehicles.

The regional field action, which remains under way, affects 371,309 older-model vehicles in Florida, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

A third similar action also is ongoing. Chrysler Group is replacing passenger-side air-bag inflators from a product-family code-named "SPI," in an estimated 149,150 model-year 2003 pickup trucks registered, ever registered or originally purchased in seven U.S. states and five U.S. territories.

The third action covers 39,409 vehicles also affected by the initial regional field action. Affected customers will be notified beginning Jan. 19.

Chrysler Group has not identified an inflator defect in any of its vehicles. However, the Company is committed -- out of an abundance of caution -- to replacing these components in an estimated total of 617,573 older-model cars, trucks and SUVs.

Customers with questions or concerns may call 1-800-853-1403.

Default Mazda expands scope of vehicles affected by Takata airbag recall to 330k

UPDATED MAZDA STATEMENT REGARDING TAKATA AIRBAGS

Dec 11, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC (December 11, 2014) – In addition to the actions announced on December 4, 2014, as discussed in a separate document, Mazda today announced the following steps in the Takata recall:

Mazda will institute a nationwide Safety Improvement Campaign of 2004-2008 model-year Mazda6 and RX-8 models equipped with certain Takata airbag inflators.

The nationwide Safety Improvement Campaign will cover the driver's-side airbag inflator, as Mazda has not made a safety defect determination at this time. This action will support us to gather additional parts for examination and to promote customer satisfaction and safety.
There are approximately 330,000 vehicles included in this Safety Improvement Campaign in the United States

So far, Takata has tested a large number of inflators removed from Mazda vehicles, and NONE have been found to be non-compliant at this time

One vehicle – a 2005 Mazda6 located in Florida – has been identified as having experienced an abnormal driver's-side airbag deployment. Mazda has worked closely with NHTSA on this situation
Mazda will participate in the independent, industry-wide joint testing program for Takata airbag inflators

For history, on December 4, 2014, Mazda announced:

It would expand the area of the high-temperature, high-humidity region recall to include the Gulf Coast states. This campaign included both driver's- and passenger-side airbag inflators
The following states and territories comprise the High Absolute Humidity Region - Florida; Puerto Rico; Hawaii; Saipan; Guam; American Samoa; US Virgin Islands; Georgia; Alabama; Louisiana; Mississippi; Texas.

As of December 4th, the estimated vehicles in all Mazda-Takata campaigns is 86,773. (Pending Polk Data confirmation).

Mazda is working closely with Takata to move forward the supply timing for replacement airbags. We continue to encourage customers to respond to our campaigns, and are making direct-to-customer phone calls and re-sending notification letters.

With safety as our first priority, we are cooperating with Takata to work toward finding a solution to this problem as early as possible

This situation is fluid, and updates will be provided regularly.

Default Fiat Chrysler expands Takata airbag recall to 3.3M vehicles

Statement: Global Air-Bag Inflator Replacement
December 19, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC will replace driver's-side air-bag inflators in an estimated 3.3 million older-model vehicles worldwide, in an expansion of an ongoing regional field action.

Neither FCA US, nor Takata Corporation, the supplier, has identified a defect in this population of inflators. These components also are distinct from Takata inflators cited in fatalities involving other auto makers.

More than 1,000 laboratory tests have been performed on these components. All deployed as intended, but FCA US continues to study the suspect inflators, which are not used in the Company's current production vehicles.

Outside of Florida, one of the areas covered by the original action, no FCA US vehicle has been linked to an air-bag deployment of the type that has raised public concern. Nevertheless, the Company is replacing the Takata components tied to that concern.

FCA US is aware of one related injury involving one of its vehicles, an older-model sedan. It occurred in a southern Florida region marked by persistent, high, absolute humidity – a condition believed to be a contributing factor in the air-bag deployments under investigation.

The ongoing action, announced in June, was confined to Florida and three regions with similar climatic conditions – Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The expansion affects an estimated 2,890,785 vehicles across the U.S.; 258,586 in Canada; 66,436 in Mexico and 99,030 outside the NAFTA region. Covered are certain 2004-2007 vehicles from the following model lines:
Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups
Dodge Ram 3500 Chassis Cabs
Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen full-size SUVs
Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger full-size sedans
Dodge Magnum full-size station wagons
Mitsubishi Raider and Dodge Dakota small pickups

Affected customers will be notified and advised when they may schedule service, which will be provided free of charge. Replacement parts will be first distributed in areas marked by persistent, high absolute humidity.

Customers with questions or concerns may call 1-800-853-1403.

Today's global field action brings to 3,672,770 the estimated number of FCA US vehicles affected worldwide by Takata air-bag inflator replacements.

Default Chrysler recalling 280k Dodge Ram 1500 pickups over axle seizures

Following a June investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will be recalling 280,000 Dodge Ram pickups from model year 2005.

The issue, NHTSA told The Detroit News, centered on a loose pinion nut, which could cause the rear axle to seize and, potentially, the driveshaft to detach. The affected vehicles were built between January of 2004 and August of 2005, while of the 280,000 trucks, only 257,000 were sold in the US market.

According to The News, the recall will begin on February 13, and will see owners report to dealerships to have "a retention feature" added to the pinion nut.

Default Porsche to replace chassis components in 918 Spyders

Porsche replaces chassis components in 205 vehicles worldwide

Atlanta. As a precautionary measure, Porsche will replace chassis components in 205 vehicles of the 918 Spyder model worldwide. The reason for this is that for vehicles that were manufactured in a certain time period defective parts were used from a delivery batch, whose functionality cannot be permanently guaranteed. No complaints have been made known (such as a break of a component) from customers up till now.

The problem was identified during in-house quality inspections and remedied immediately. The owners of the vehicles, which could be exactly traced, were contacted directly by their competent Porsche representatives. The workshop visit, which will take place by appointment at the onset of 2015, takes about two days to complete at no charge.

Default Aston Martin recalls 7,000+ vehicles over seat heaters

We've seen vehicles being recalled for all sorts of reasons: ignitions switching off, airbags inflating prematurely, brake lines leaking fluid... but this latest one from Aston Martin is for the seat heater.

So what, rich folks won't be able to drive their Volantes with the roof down when it gets cold, you say? Tragic though that would surely be, we're afraid this problem lies at the opposite end of the spectrum: seat heaters that won't turn off. The danger that poses, according to the statement below from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is that the seats could start to smolder. And that doesn't sound like fun.

The issue affects just about the entire Aston range, including the DB9, DBS, Virage, V8 Vantage and V12 Vantage, covering the 2006-2014 model years and manufactured between July 3, 2006 and November 5, 2014. That's pretty much everything Aston makes, save for the four-door Rapide, the newer Vanquish, the rare One-77 and the overseas-only Cygnet. So you'd figure that would add up to a lot of vehicles, and we suppose it does, considering the niche market in which Aston competes.

All told, the recall affects an estimated 7,256 units across the United States, the owners of which will need to bring their luxury GTs into their local dealer to have an additional circuit module installed that will cut the power to the seat heaters in case the control module fails.

The affected vehicles were built between January of 2004 and August of 2005, while of the 280,000 trucks, only 257,000 were sold in the US market.

According to The News, the recall will begin on February 13, and will see owners report to dealerships to have "a retention feature" added to the pinion nut.

Default BMW expands Takata airbag recall nationwide, 140k 3 Series affected

Following the urging of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, BMW has expanded its recall of vehicles equipped with Takata airbag inflators to cover the entirety of the United States, rather than just high-humidity areas.

That means there are about 140,000 owners of 2004 to 2006 model year BMW 3 Series coupes, convertibles, sedans and wagons (that means owners of both E46 and E90 3ers should take note). It's unclear if this recall includes the high-performance M3 Coupe and Convertible.

With the expansion of its airbag recall, BMW joins Honda, Mazda, Ford and Fiat Chrysler in moving from a regional to a nationwide recall of vehicles equipped with Takata airbags. According to Reuters, BMW claims none of its vehicles have been subject to the potentially harmful airbag deployments.
