Default McLaren Teases 675LT Supercar with 666HP ahead of Geneva World Debut [w/Video]

McLaren will add a new LT model designation (standing for “Longtail”) to the existing C and S models at the Geneva Motor Show, where a new supercar called 675LT will be unveiled.

Described as the lightest, the quickest, and the purest version in the range, the 675LT will join 650S and Asia-only 625C in the newly named McLaren Super Series, which sits above the recently announced Sports Series in the range hierarchy.

As the name suggests, the McLaren 675LT should be based on the 650S and will be a “modern day interpretation of the McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail,’” according to the automaker. The name also betrays the engines output of 675PS, or as McLaren points out, a “devilish 666bhp.”

The new model will therefore be the most powerful offering in the Super Series and will focus on performance optimized aerodynamics, increased downforce, driver engagement, power and reduced weight. It will only be offered in coupé bodystyle when deliveries start later this year.

The McLaren 675LT will share the limelight with the production version of the McLaren P1 GTR.

Default McLaren MSO reveals the one-off 650S Project Kilo

Click here to view more photos

Features new carbon fiber body panels

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has introduced the unique 650S Project Kilo model.

McLaren says this is “one of the most personalized, bespoke projects that MSO have undertaken to date”. The vehicle has received an extensive list of carbon fiber options including the roof, the rear diffuser, new sill panels and instrument cluster bezel with integrated shift lights.

There’s also new aluminum water and oil filler caps painted in body color with McLaren Orange logos, McLaren Orange painted inner door seams with MSO logos and a 24 carat gold plated exhaust heat shield. Interestingly, there is a small drawing of a kiwi bird on the engine cover, for which the British company says is a reference to New Zealand, “the birth place of our founder, Bruce McLaren”.

Default New McLaren 675LT for Longtail Sounds Delicious in New Trailer

After nearly two decades, a McLaren model will wear the LT (for Longtail) moniker and this here is the second teaser video for the new 675LT in which we hear the turbo'd V8 for the first time.

McLaren also confirmed the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8's output figures at 675PS (666hp) and a controlled torque delivery of 600Nm (443 lb ft) in first gear, rising to the full 700Nm (516 lb-ft) available from 5,500-6,500 rpm, through each of the other gears.

These figures represent a slight increase in power and torque over the 650S' V8 that delivers 650PS (641hp) and 678Nm (500 lb-ft), with the British sports car maker stating that improvements include lighter components and new turbos. The 675LT also gets a bespoke crossover exhaust system formed from lightweight titanium.

As for the new rear end, we're told that the Active ‘Longtail’ Airbrake "contributes to a 40 percent increase in overall downforce".

More details are to be released in the next few weeks leading to the Geneva Motor Show.

Default Take a Video Tour Round One-Off McLaren 650S ‘Project Kilo’

YouTuber Shmee gained access to another unique creation, the ‘Project Kilo’, a bespoke 650S built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO). He's taking us on a tour round the car, showing us what makes it so special.

The ‘Project Kilo’ has no technical differences from its 650S brothers, so the owner will have to satisfy his needs with just 641hp (650PS) and 678Nm (500lb-ft) of torque, coming from its twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8. This customization is all about weight savings, making every panel lighter with the use of carbon-fibre bits. If you insist on asking how much weight was exactly saved, well, we don’t know as Mclaren never said.

The car, painted in an one-off ‘Kilo-Grey’ shade, also features a 24-karat gold heat shield for the exhaust and its sprinkled all over with orange detailing and some Kiwi logos, paying tribute to McLaren’s founder Bruce Mclaren who was born in New Zealand.

Head to the video to find out more

Default This Is McLaren's New LongTail 675LT, A Harder, Faster And Lighter 650S

McLaren has finally revealed the details of the new 675 Long Tail prior to its Geneva Motor Show much awaited global debut.

The 675LT is basically a lighter and even more powerful version of the 650S with track-use in mind. Extensive weight savings make the 675LT 100kg lighter than its brother while the significantly updated engine, now making 666bhp/ 675ps and 515lb.ft/700Nm of torque, means that the new Mac has now the best power-to-weight ratio in its class, with 541bhp per ton, 59 more than the arch-nemesis Ferrari 488GTB.

The new Long Tail sprints from standstill to 62mph in 2.9 seconds, the same time as the 650S, with the benefits of the smaller mass and bigger power reflecting on the 0-124mph time, a staggering 7.9 seconds, 0.4sec faster than a 488GTB. Top speed is set at 205mph-330km/h.

McLaren claims that more than 50 per cent of parts have been changed in the twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 in order to “deliver increased levels of power, torque and driveability”. The changes include new, more efficient turbos, redesigned cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds, new camshaft and lightweight connecting rods, and a faster-flowing fuel pump and delivery system. McLaren says that these changes are so significant that forced them to change the code of the engine which now reads M838TL.

The weight savings have been achieved through the extensive use of carbon fibre for the body panels, along with the lightweight engine, chassis and body structure parts. The 675 Long Tail features an extended carbon-fibre front splitter which meets the also extended carbon door sill and additional cooling intakes on its sides. McLaren says that the new aero agenda increases downforce levels over the front axle. A pair of circular titanium exhaust pipes distinguishes the LT from its slower brother, while the active “Longtail” Airbrake is 50 percent bigger than the one fitted to the 650S, in order to optimize the new aero balance.
The total dry weight of the car is just 1.230kg, making the 675LT the lightest and fastest model in the McLaren Super Series.

In the pursuit of minimal weight, Mclaren has removed the air conditioning out of the 675 LT but customers can have it as a no cost option. A pair of lightweight carbon fibre-shelled bucket seats, modelled on those in the McLaren P1 set the tone in the interior.

The 675LT will be offered in five ‘By McLaren’ hero specifications, which includes four bespoke colours: Silica White, Delta Red, Napier Green and Chicane Grey and the famous heritage McLaren Orange.

McLaren is on a roll ever since the 12C. Already lots of variants of the 650 (625, 650S, 675LT), a hyper car, an entry level coming. Wowza

Yep, didn't like the look of the 12C at all and then this 675LT is just gorgeous! That booty is one of the best out there. Will this ever drops in the 80K??? LOL, maybe that's the only time I'll be able to afford one.

I couldn't believe how much they managed to dumb down the look of the initial MP4-12C when the shape and proportion is so similar to the totally hot F1. That aren't easy.

It surely was done intentionally so they can sell a good amount of each iteration as it progressively getting hotter.

The 12C should be $80k someday as it is so undesirable, is already $140k the last time I look? 650S and LT are probably not gonna dip down as low as they are gorgeous.

Assuming the P13 takes cues from the P1/650S, it should also be pretty desirable and cheaper than these 650 variants. Seriously cannot wait for the 488 GTB vs R8 vs Huracan vs 650S vs GT vs NSX shootout

All I see are mid-engine

6, 8 or 10 cylinders, RWD or AWD, and are all 7-Speed DCT's?!

With that logic, LaFerrari, 918, P1 and Veyron would all be in the same class as those things.

The former six though will be closer in price than the latter 4. We're more likely to get a comparison test of those was my point. All awesome cars nonetheless

Default Mclaren 675LT Limited to 500 Units Plus More Info

Click here to view more photos

The McLaren 675LT made its global debut today at the Geneva Motor Show next to the original and stunning F1 Long Tail with the Brits revealing everything about it.

McLaren says that the new Longtail, the lightest, most powerful and fastest model in the Super Series, will be strictly limited to 500 units worldwide. The more aggressive setup of the car gives a “a unique track-focused feel”, featuring wider tracks, both front and rear by 20mm. The lightweight springs used are 27 per cent stiffer at the front and 63 per cent stiffer at the rear, allowing the revised bodywork and active aero agenda of the car to produce 40 per cent more downforce than a regular 650S. The suspension features even a new geometry thanks to lightweight uprights and wishbones that are based on the experience gained from the McLaren P1.

The dry weight of the car is now 1.230kg which means that more than 100kg were saved compared to the 650S. McLaren even replaced the front windscreen with a thinner one, the rear bulkhead glass and the engine cover with a polycarbonate one saving a total of 4.5kg.

The seven-speed SSG double-clutch gearbox has been recalibrated to “produce more eager performance”, with the gearshifts to be up to twice as fast as offered in the 650S. Responsible for that increase is a new “Ignition Cut” technology, adopted from Formula 1, which cut momentarily the fuel spark on gearshifts, improving dramatically the time of the gear change, which now is accompanied by an aural explosion, both on upshifts and downshifts. A specially developed and all-new Electronic Stability Control (ESC) also debuts in the 675LT, which gives the driver an even greater level of control over the throttle and brake inputs.

There is also the option for McLaren’s Club Sport Pack which includes a titanium roll hoop with four-point harnesses and a fire extinguisher, priced at £5,090 for the UK market. The McLaren 675LT is now available for order with a base price of £259,500. Deliveries are expected to start in July this year.
