Wow, that is sexy! And those rear taillights are a huge shock! The new S and C class just went with vertical lights, not horizontal. They look great here, although there are a lot of similarities to the Passat CC with the decklid's leading edge and bumper cut around the license plate. Even the 911's lights are close. It wouldn't be a bad thing to step on the styling toes of the 911.
About the only strange thing to my eye are the headlight shapes. They remind me of the eyes of Dumbo the Elephant, just as they do on the SL and CLA.

There was a pretty long discussion about it on another forum I hang out on with some MB insiders. Even the early interior sketches for this car had the 3-spoke steering wheel while the S-class sedan sketches had the 2-spoke.
The sedan is supposed to be the last word in luxury and isolation- they were really trying to push the chauffeur aspect for places like China. That's also why special emphasis was placed on the rear of the cabin and tech like Magic Body Control was developed. The sedan discourages aggressive driving in that sense. Given that the coupe would naturally lend it self to a more sporty and personal nature, the 3-spoke made was chosen.

I think this is absolutely beautiful. The details, especially in the interior are astounding. Here's where some deep heritage pays off in terms of design because there are many classic MB touches here but they are reinterpreted in a modern sense with great success. If I were a rich man this is the car I would want.
