Default time to get rid of the CD slot?

why do most new cars still have a CD slot? who the heck uses CDs anymore?

it should at least be an option like a 'smoking kit'

i just don't like seeing a slot prominently in the dash that i'm never going to use and just collects dust.

i see dodge now doesn't have a CD on at least the durango!

i saw another model has the slot in the storage box between the seats which is better if it's going to be present.

thoughts?

I still like having the ability to play a CD. There are times when I'm just taking a short drive in the car that I use it. I always keep one mix CD in the player.

I live near the water at the bottom of a large hill, so I do not get satellite radio or FM radio signals there. If I don't bother to bring my phone to either use Pandora or Bluetooth streaming, I just listen to my CD as a backup.

I still use CD's and I only buy physical media including the occasional cassette tape and vinyl.

They should keep them in cars. Cars cost way too much to not have one.

i don't mind leave it in there. the opening for CD slot is slim enough to be ignore, unlike the ugly cassette slots on some of the earlier gen 3 GS350.

In my LS, I had a JVC stereo that I plugged my phone into.

In my parents' LS that I'm driving now...only AM/FM and Cassette(but no cassettes to listen to, lol). I wish the antenna had broken in the extended position, rather than the inside position.

CUrrently car shopping...new car must have bluetooth.

So am I the only one who watches DVDs in my car during long trips?

I still use CD's. I'm too lazy to rip them into mp3 files . . .

He must just love that natural hissing background sound from cassettes--just the pure music sound...

Rather than getting rid of CD/DVD slots, manufacturers should have panels/covers that hide the media center.

Keep the console cleaner looking...

QFT...

Keep the device (I've got way too many CD's to fit on any iPod) but make it less obvious. (I mean I had mine in the glovebox on the 2GS which was nicely hidden (they should have put the tape in there instead) but poor ergonomics changer or not. BTW: I can do without the changer option.

I'm glad my Verano (which is less than two years old) has a CD slot. Life would sure be sad without my Twisted Sister CDs.
