This. Maserati's commercial would have been great if it was advertising something else, but it just made no point as to why we should go and buy one.
maybe like a maserati it was intended to be 'unusual', and maybe they've succeeded because we're talking about it, but i can't imagine it made anyone want to buy one!?
yes, because it introduced a car and a brand that half of people forgot about... Maserati needed the same kind of exposure, and you barely even saw their awesome car
you mean your thread? anyway, not sure we need to put all car advertising discussion in one thread since the topic is very broad and covers every brand.

I think the Maserati spot was too lofty. Maserati is a brand that has very low public awareness here in the states (where the vast majority of the Superbowl audience resides). People know it is expensive but most probably don't know that the brand stands for. You're sitting there pondering the message and before you know it the spot is over.
The Jag ad tapped into so many things that this particular audience knows. Famous British actors who have been in recent larger-than-life roles. It played on the fantasy of being the bad guy and why it's cool that he drives a fast British car. In other words, the actors personified the car. That's something that is immediately accessible and compelling. The fact that the car looked and sounded great just seals it.
