Simple, they want to charge the consumer extra for the extra styling.

3 series : some profit
4 series : more profit for the better styling/coupe lines
4 GC : EVEN more profit to get back the utility and functionality of 4 doors while still claiming cool points for driving a (gran) coupe.

Basically BMW is playing on human vanity and making bank off it.

lol seriously what is the point of this if its true?? Makes no sense. Why create the 4 series in the first place if they were planning to make a GC in the future? 4 series GC and 3 series look nearly identical.

Then there's the 3-series GT. Basically a higher 4-series GC.
