Depends on the market. Infiniti sells a buttload of JX and QX in Texas, and the south in general. The Sewell dealer in Houston specifically does extremely well.
The point of a high-performance car is to bring warm bodies into the dealership that you can sell another car. Infiniti, right now, only brings in suburban housewives. There is nothing that men would get excited about (and I mean something like an F car, M, AMG, S/RS, V, etc).
Infiniti has a deal to use MB engines... I wonder if this is an application where we'll see one.

Again, poor marketing is part of it. Well that an IPL.. give me a break, try harder. And even then they only made the G37 with an IPL trim
MBZ has some good base engine tech for them, and who knows how much longer the VQ will soldier on for. We'll see though

Infiniti is going to finally back up their words. Their problem right now is that they are in a lag period where the current line up won't change for a year or two. The new Q60 coupe should have been coming soon, but was delayed for styling modifications. Once 2015 rolls, new product should be hitting rapidly and Infiniti should start seeing the fruits of their labor.
It's was shame that they had to essentially relaunch again though. They had a lot of momentum with the original G35 and FX, becoming the Japanese alternative to BMW. Then they kind of fizzled out with lack of updates, heavy emphasis on SUVs, and teasing but not delivering on great performance concept cars.

Beyond product they have a long way to go before they are a luxury brand corporation with the requisite level of service.
I have had my Q50 since earrly August and still no software fix for the Apps.
The car has been great, and out the out of the box early build car quality has been way better than my 06 IS350 was.

very excited to see this brand finally rise from the ashes. I enjoy driving Infiniti products. I just think the brand is poorly managed. Bring it !!

To me Infiniti is still a 2nd tier Luxury Brand. They are doing very well right now and have the potential to make a serious push into the lower brackets of the 1st tier (Lexus/Audi)....but I don't trust this brand at all.
It's actually quite easy to see Acura overtaking Infiniti like in the past and pushing Infiniti lower.
One of the big reasons Inifiniti rose so high was because their G37'S were superior to the 4G TL. If the TLX destroys the Q50 Sales(likely scenario) Infiniti's SUV segment is inferior to Acura's as well, so what do they have left?
Infiniti as a brand survives on their 34k-44k Segment(G,Q,SUVS)... They are not going to be successful at 50k+. They live and die with their Entry Level Luxury/Sport segment.
I just don't see the Q50 doing well against the TLX. A lot of people are confused by the name change and have no idea what's going on. They are also confused by the lack of a Coupe.. Car guys know the actual Coupe is not out yet.. but there are actually buyers who think the Q60 Coupe is the 'next generation'.... and they don't like it because to them it's the 'same' as G37 Coupe. (Actually it is the same car, but the average consumer get a bit confused by this because they thought the Q was a new Gen)

I was talking to an Infiniti dealer and he was saying the Company wants to 'expand' even further and tap into that 5 SERIES/7SERIES Market.
I just feel like that's very hard to do.
A Q50 could be looked at as a more sporty C CLASS EQUAL .
A Lexus IS could be looked at as a direct competitor to the BMW 3 Series.
In that segment, the Germans could be taken.
But if you go HIGHER UP.. to the 7 SERIES/S CLASS Segment..
I think common perception is still that the S CLASS is overall a more luxurious car than their Japanese Counter parts. Maybe one day that will change, but not yet.

To compete in the coveted Tier 1 segment you have to have product that has parity or exceeds the competiton. And even then you need that something extra to convince consumers to buy your product over a more established brand which has far stronger brand image - which not sure why you even said that since you mentioned Perception in the second sentence.
