^ Why do you always comment on the videos description and never on the video itself? It makes no sense.

Default Ford adds 850 jobs to build 2015 F-150

Oct 13, 2014 | DEARBORN, Mich.
Ford Continues Job Creation Momentum, Adds 850 More Jobs at Historic Rouge Center to Build New F-150

- Ford is adding 850 more jobs to its Dearborn Truck, Stamping and Diversified facilities to build the all-new 2015 F-150 – the toughest, smartest, most capable F-150 ever
- Dearborn Truck Plant recently has undergone the largest manufacturing transformation in decades to prepare for the truck's launch
- Already Ford has surpassed its goal of creating 12,000 hourly jobs in the United States by 2015 as part of the 2011 UAW contract talks; total new job creation to date exceeds 14,000; more than 4,000 jobs added in southeastern Michigan alone

Ford Motor Company today announced the addition of 850 new jobs at its historic Ford Rouge Center, comprised of the Dearborn Truck, Dearborn Stamping and Dearborn Diversified facilities. The new jobs will support production of the all-new 2015 F-150 launching in a matter of weeks.

"As customer anticipation for the all-new F-150 continues to build, today we are bringing on 850 new jobs to help meet the market demand for the toughest, smartest, most capable F-150 ever," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas. "The new truck sets new standards for the future of tough – right down to how it's built."

As a part of the launch of the all-new F-150, Dearborn Truck Plant recently underwent the largest manufacturing transformation in decades, replacing legacy manufacturing equipment with the latest in production technology. This transformation marked the first major renovation of the iconic facility since it opened in 2004. In addition, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour is currently undergoing a complete renovation with new films, exhibits and hands-on experiences tied to the new vehicle.

"Today we celebrate the commitment to excellence that the hardworking men and women of the Rouge demonstrate every day," said Jimmy Settles, UAW vice president and director of the National Ford Department. "The technology in the all-new 2015 F-150 is something the auto industry has never seen before, and our UAW members are poised and excited to build the next generation of America's favorite truck."

The 850 new jobs are divided among three of the center's facilities – more than 500 for Dearborn Truck, nearly 300 for Dearborn Stamping and more than 50 for Dearborn Diversified – bringing total combined hourly employment near 5,000 workers. These jobs are in addition to the more than 3,000 hourly jobs Ford has added across its U.S. manufacturing facilities this year alone.

"Ford's announcement is more positive news for the citizens of Michigan and a further sign of the comeback of Michigan, manufacturing and the auto industry," said Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder.

Job creation goal exceeded

Since the 2011 UAW-Ford contract negotiations, Ford has added jobs across its other U.S. manufacturing plants, for a new job creation total of more than 14,000, which exceeds its goal of creating 12,000 hourly jobs in the U.S. by 2015. More than 4,000 of these jobs were added in southeastern Michigan alone, including:

1,800 at Michigan Assembly Plant
1,700 at Flat Rock Assembly Plant
250 at Rawsonville Plant
240 at Van Dyke Transmission Plant
150 at Livonia Transmission Plant

All-new Ford F-150

The 2015 Ford F-150 is the toughest, smartest, most capable F-150 ever.

In designing the backbone of the F-150, Ford engineers improved the truck's signature fully boxed ladder frame. It is all-new with more high-strength steel than ever – making it stronger and lighter. High-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloys – already used in aerospace, commercial transportation, energy and many other rugged industries – are used throughout the F-150 body for the first time, improving dent and ding resistance and also saving up to 700 pounds of weight.

The 2015 F-150 is designed to be the most fuel efficient F-150 ever, thanks to the dramatic improvements in weight and advanced engine technology. Every model, every engine and every customer benefits from this weight savings. This means the 2015 F-150 can tow up to 1,100 more pounds, haul up to 530 more pounds and will have better fuel economy ratings than the current F-150 lineup, projected to be in the range of at least 5 percent and as much as 20 percent higher than current models, depending on the model. EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings are not yet available and will likely be announced in November.

When it arrives in showrooms later this year, the all-new F-150 will have undergone the equivalent of more than 10 million miles of torture testing to ensure it meets or exceeds Built Ford Tough standards.

In addition to an all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost® engine offering, a complete lineup of powertrains lets customers tailor the truck ever to their needs. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine returns, an all-new normally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 debuts and there is an improved 5.0-liter V8.

F-150 is part of the Ford F-Series lineup. Now in its 66th year, F-Series has been the best-selling truck in America for 37 consecutive years and the best-selling vehicle in America for 32 consecutive years.

The all-new F-150 will be manufactured at Dearborn Truck Plant in Dearborn, Michigan, and Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Missouri.

I spoke with one of P552 designers recently (another-to-another) and he told me nearly 3 years ago in December 2011, is when Mulally approved the styling of the 2015 F-150. My initial guess 2 years ago was right on the money, even though most accused me of bluffing/BS-ing. The alternate proposals for the 2013 Atlas "Concept" were actually P552 F-150 proposals, not necessarily made for the Atlas "Concept" itself in 2012.

The taillights are a bit of an modern homage to the 1979-1997 F-Series. Unlike the 2009 F-150, it took longer to develop, even though both were delayed from early autumn to December launch dates.

The use of aluminium will encourage everyone in the industry to move forward and wouldn't have been possible, had Jaguar investments in aluminium from 1998-on not come to fruition. I look forward to the SVT variant in Super Cab form, as that will be my next US vehicle, come 2016.

Default Ford 'working very hard' on F-150 hybrid

The lighter, aluminum-bodied 2015 Ford F-150 gets (at best) 26 miles per gallon. That's not bad for a truck that size – and we should always remember that improving gas guzzlers can make a big difference – but what if the popular truck came with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain? How efficient would that be? We heard Ford talking about such a vehicle last year, and now we learn that Ford is still "working very hard" to make a F-150 hybrid happen.

You want details? Well, we all want details, but those will not be coming for quite some time. Last year, Ford's global product development chief, Raj Nair, said that the company was planning to have hybrid pickups and hybrid SUVs on sale by 2020. With fuel prices dropping, Nair is now saying that a hybrid F-150 makes more sense, financially, than a diesel, but Ford could make both options available, depending on customer demand. The diesel wouldn't require all that much work, Nair said, since "we've got diesels in the portfolio."

To date, the only hybrid F-150s we've seen have been conversions, often PHEVs, like this example from HVET or this one from Quantum. Pickup trucks from other manufacturers haven't been greeted with huge sales numbers. General Motors stopped making its big two-mode hybrids and cancelled the next-gen program.

Default 2015 Ford F-150's EPA Estimates Are Out, Returns Up To 26MPG Topping Gasoline But Not

Whichever way you see it, a full-size pickup truck returning up to 26mpg (9,0l/100km) highway is quite impressive.

The fuel economy number corresponds to Ford's new alloy-bodied 2015 F-150 with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine in rear-wheel drive trim (4x2) that also gets EPA-estimated 19 mpg City (12.4 l/100km) and 22 mpg (10.7 l/100km) Combined fuel economy ratings, which Ford says, are the highest of "any full-size gasoline pickup on the market".

And by that, it means that it beats the previous leader among gasoline-powered pickup trucks, the 2015 Ram 1500 2WD 3.0L V6 that gets an EPA estimated 17mpg city, 25mpg highway and 20mpg combined.

However, Ford's 2.7 Ecoboost trails the overall leader in the segment, the diesel-powered 2015 Ram 1500 that gets 20mpg city, 28mpg highway and 23mpg combined.

Ford insists, that the F-150 2.7L EcoBoost is a much better value because it has a $495 premium over the standard $25,420 F-150 compared to the $4,470 3.0-liter Ram EcoDiesel option that brings it to $30,215.

You can see the EPA estimatesfor the entire F-150 range in detail in the list compiled by Ford below.

Default Ford's New Alloy 2015 F-150 is a Jack of all Trades and Master of Most

Reviews of the all-new aluminum-bodied F-150 leave us with a really positive impression of Ford’s new pickup.

It’s very efficient with the new 2.7-liter EcoBoost, it has a modern, well appointed interior that features more tech than ever plus it’s not bad on the move either.

As the KBB reviewer eloquently points out, it (and others like it) seems to have become a kind of Jack of all trades vehicle that suits the widely varying needs of so many Americans. He goes on to say, though, that while being a Jack of all trades implies it’s good at none of the things it can do, this time it’s actually a “master of most.”

Also, with the optional top-spec LED headlights it could even be called a fashion statement – people would want to be seen in the F150 and we don’t blame them; it’s got the modern pickup look nailed.

Default Cheap Fuel May Hurt Sales of the 2015 Ford F-150

When Ford began developing the all-new 2015 F-150, gas prices were high and the market needed more fuel-efficient pick-up trucks.

This is why the automaker made a costly shift to an aluminum body for its new F-150 pickup, which is up to 29 percent more fuel-efficient than the model it replaced. But in mid-December 2014, fuel prices in the United States have reached a 5-year low. Average nationwide prices are at $2.5 a gallon for regular gasoline, down 31 percent from a peak of $3.7 in April.

Some analysts believe low fuel prices make it hard for Ford to justify price increases for the 2015 F-150 compared to the previous generation model.

“Ford’s new 2015 F-150, which incorporates a number of advanced but costly powertrain, light-weighting and safety technologies, represents one of the most prominent early examples of this forthcoming change. We question whether consumers will pay the price for this content with $2-$3 gas,” Rod Lache, an analyst at Deutsche Bank in New York, was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.

Ford said last week it has shipped more than 5,000 new 2015 F-150 models nationwide. The company sold 763,402 F-Series pickups last year, 18 percent more than in 2012, making it the top-selling vehicle line in the U.S. for a 32nd straight year.

Ford has hundreds of new F-150 pickups in parking lots around Detroit that are waiting to pass extra quality inspections before being shipped to dealers. The automaker said it expects to reach full F-150 production by the end of December at its Rouge factory in Dearborn, Michigan.

Just like the price drop of 2008 destroyed the future of hybrids and small cars.

Default Ford Files Trademark Application For ‘EcoBeast’

Ford Motor Company is looking to secure trademark rights to the term EcoBeast, Motrolix was first to discover and report.
Filed on December 22nd, 2014 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the application was assigned serial number 6487578 and was filed under the Goods and Services category of “automobiles and automobile engines”.
Ford EcoBeast Trademark

The Motrolix Take
The term EcoBeast is clearly a play on the automaker’s EcoBoost brand of engines. In fact, some Ford enthusiasts — especially owners of the F-150 pickup with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 — have been known to nickname their trucks EcoBeast. The EcoBoost line of motors, meanwhile, have become the engines to beat in the mainstream automotive space all over the world thanks to their healthy dose of fuel efficiency and power.
In that context, we would venture to theorize that the EcoBeast trademark likely foreshadows one of the following three things:
A high-performance (“beastly”) version of the EcoBoost engine range
Something related to Ford’s OEM-supported tuning efforts of EcoBoost engines
The name of a high-performance Ford concept
… or maybe it’s something else entirely. Stay tuned as we learn more about what The Blue Oval has in store for EcoBeast.
