Reportedly he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident that occurred while skiing with his 14 year old son near Grenoble, in the French Alps. Our prayers for his healing and recovery - and for his friends and family as they gather to his bedside.

Hope he has a speedy recovery. The article said his injuries were "non-life threatening" Hope he isn't crippled from this accident.
I know some of these guys(race car drivers) are total adrenaline junkies. When they retire, they are restless, and have a hard time filling that void that racing has left in their lives.

Certainly hope he recovers. A lot of people don't realize just how dangerous skiing can be. It causes many a broken leg each year, and two notable fatalities were Sonny Bono and Michael Kennedy. Both of them ran into trees at high speed within just a few weeks of each other.

ALWAYS wear your safety gear for anything you do,kids.
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. Can't imagine what his family is feeling.
“Unfortunately, he had some lesions to his brain when he came in, he had some diffuse injuries to his brain, but we can’t really say what the outcome will be,” Dr. Jean-Francois Payen, an anesthesiologist who is leading Schumacher’s medical team at the Grenoble University Hospital Center, told a news conference.
“He’s in a critical situation and we can say he’s fighting for his life,” Dr. Payen said. “We judge him to be in a very serious condition.” He added, “We are working continuously, hour by hour, but it’s too early to say what’s going to happen, and to give a prognosis.”
chumacher, who has a chalet nearby, has a reputation as an accomplished skier, and resort officials said he was wearing a helmet when he fell. His medical team told the news conference that the severity of his impact with the rock, causing the lesions on the right side of his brain, was such that he would have died had he not been wearing a helmet.
